Demo Issue

I have been playing Civilization 3 for quite some time, so I thought I would try the demo version of Civilization 5. Well, as you are about to read, that didn't work out so good...

I installed the demo on steam, and it popped up with a message saying: "It's not possible to start the application because d3dx9_42.dll is missing in the computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem." I didn't want to spend an hour re-installing the program, so I just googled "d3dx9_42.dll Civilization 5". I saw this thread as the first result so I read it and it said to update DirectX, so I did. But while it was installing, this message popped up: "An internal system error occurred. Please refer to DXError.log and DirectX.log in your windows folder to determine the problem."

I searched my computer, but DXError.log didn't exist and DirectX.log was a HUGE list of stuff. Here is the list, just in case it can help someone help me:

So, if anyone could help me, it will be greatly appreciated. I have always had trouble with Steam.

What version of DirectX are you installing? Because Win7 should come with DX11, but it looks like you were installing DX9 (which might be needed, but still confusing).
And i guess you're doing the installation with Admin rights, right?

I don't really know what version of DirectX I was installing, and I don't know how to check. Lol I suck at computers. xD

If you don't know what you were installling...then where did you get the update from? You must have searched for it and downloaded it, right?

That links me to the DX9 version...to what does it link you?
Are you trying to load the DX9 or 11 version of the game?

Oh... It links me to the DX9 version, too.

And iv'e tried loading both versions of the game, but neither work.

Okay, i googled a bit now.
And my first realization is, that these "download single dll files here" and "download that dll fixing programm" crap sites are pretty high in the googe rankings and that other forums don't get as much effectively rid of that spam as we do.
-> in case you googled it yourself: Don't do it, it's at best useless, at worst that's malware.

Second realization: Many of the first hits are related to Civ5, but that doesn't help us. Also for most of them just updating helped, also not an option here.

In one of the hits it was said, that updating other drivers helped.
So...could you post your DXDiag here, that we'll see if there's an update needed (or just do it, if you want)? I don't know why this should make any sense, but better test it, right?

I just tried running the DX9 Diagnostic tool, but it said that no problems were found.

Please check the date of your drivers. That would not really be considered a problem, but it might solve some.
