Democracy and Republic

I don't know about the exact cumulative effects, but I do know that they add to each other.
I had the USufferage wonder and I had war weariness problems. So I built a few police stations and the weariness appeared to go down.

However whether both cut weariness in half or not I do not know.

It's all semantic, but your use of the word "democracy" to mean majoritarianism or "true democracy" is not the usual meaning of the word. This usage is probably best reserved for philosophy classes as there is no application in the real world. The way the word is generally used means that the U.S. and most countries of the western world are, indeed, democracies. Republic is usually used to refer to societies without universal suffrage, such as the Senate of ancient Rome.

(The right-wing in the U.S. has been pushing the point that the U.S. is a republic, asserting that the power of the government is limited, but in many people's minds it harkens back to the states' rights ideals of segregation and Jim Crow. )

You're right about there being no real world application of Democracy in the true meaning b/c it is not attianable and remember dictionaries reflect common usage of words, like you said. The term "representative democracy" is a term I hear all the time and I maintian it's an oxymoron. Calling the US a democracy begain right after the civil war due to the reason you stated, and also b/c the federal government clamped down on states to prevent another uprising. All of that said, just b/c the common usage of the word Democracy has been warped to mean an entirely different form of government, does not make it correct. In terms of CIV3, I believe the little bit of war it takes to make disorder in cities, and the low level of corruption make the Democracy in the game the true definition of the word.
