So I was in the middle of my current turn, when I chose democracy for my next policy. Immediately like 10 barbarian camps spawned all over the world. What's that all about?

I'm running around +50 happiness.
They're not rebellions, and they appeared immediately after pushing the button for democracy, which reduces unhappiness as well.
and as I noted, this happened in the middle of the turn. After I'd already set production for some things and moved a few units.

Did you by any chance have Honor opened? If so, then it is indeed a bug, happend to me too. Adopted a social policy late and Honor 'refreshed', as in giving me locations of barb encampments, which it stopped doing for a while.

I'd finished honor long ago. But it had been providing me with info on barbarian settlements all along as far as I can remember.

I just got the same thing in my game that I finished 10 mins ago. It was super late game, near future tech, when I picked a policy and I got notifications of barb huts near the polar caps.

Yup identical. All the barbs, well maybe not all, but I think 9/10 were in the polar areas.

If you didn't open Honour then you are either right and Democracy has a "hidden feature" or you popped a hut showing encampments .. personally leaning towards to latter
I'm late game. There was nothing to pop. Once again:
These all spawned immediately after pushing the "democracy" button.
I did nothing else. I'd already made several moves that turn as well, including moving units, choosing productions, etc.
Encampments had already been revealed to me long ago, and had been revealed during several turns previously. But always at the beginning of a turn.
This appears as though it was a direct result of pushing the democracy button and nothing else

Do you have the save from the turn before?

I'll check, but probably not, I only keep a few auto-saves, and I don't think I manually saved recently before that.
