Department of Turnplay

Tubby knows someone has it, but doesn't seem to have thought to check f7

Did Tubs color/colour this knowledge w/ expletives?

I'm looking forward to publishing and reading the team rags.

I see that the rest of the world is congratulating us. I'm so proud.

Turn 90

:goodjob: The level of detail and forethought going into each turn is impressive.

F7 shows nothing still, so other teams at least were not that close to the Pyramids or a cascade should have happened by now. Either they are not too far into any wonder builds or are now going for the GL. Maybe they're all following the No Wonder Rule and letting us have them all.

The others probably have their wonders tied up in palace builds. If they didn't build in a fallback plan for a cascade then... we're obligated to eradicate them.

If they bring they're loaded boats, they'll have to get through ours at a loss of three units to every one boat we lose. Not a terribly bright idea, I think.

Excellent point. Killer curraghs!

Hey, I didn't come into the game last time around until far after this point but I got the impression that if another team was interested in circumnavigating our continent that that would be frowned upon greatly. Would an exploring ship be turned back upon threat of force?

Sugar Mountain will grow next turn and pick up three uncorrupted shields. I believe it is possible to get Sugar Mountain to 27 uncorrupted shields with 10 turns left in the GA. Since we need mp's to do this and vet warriors to improve our power graph (right? Bugs and Daghie ) in case of contact soon, I have a suggestion. We really have no problems getting enough settlers now, so I propose we change the settler build due in three to a barracks at Paradise City. When it grows in three turns to size 4 it can halt growth using a mined plains, two irrigated plains, and a mined desert (needs worker action on this) it can yeild 10 shpt for one turn vet warriors through 14 turns of the GA. We can also do 4-turn low science research on IW to at least reveal the location iron (stays disconnected?), possibly giving us extra shields at Sugar Mountain or elsewhere. MM should come next, I think, and we need to think about when we want to pop the two remaining huts. If they both have tech, we could end our GA just three techs short of the MA even without contacts.
Power graph is unimportant atm and vet warriors wont help it that much. I vote for just regulars from Paradise City to act as MP at Sugar mountain. Once our island is filled out, we can build units like nobodys business, especially in Feudalism. It is amazing how many units you can build in Feudie when you set your mind to it. A loaded galley landing by an enemy would be prudent right now, but very unlikely I think.

We moved up in military from 5 to 4, we're still 3 in land ownership, and 4th in literacy.

Reading these tea leaves we see that there's a focus on both growth and technology. These numbers are not a shock but do appear to support the idea that there's little focus on military and although a landing would be prudent it's not likely.

Shifting into paranoid mode...
But since a single galley w/ two swords could put a dent in our plans we should keep enough killer curraghs to block or engage a lone "trojan explorer".

Alright, I think we should just let the settler complete, then switch to warriors. Some of what I was thinking was to at least have a small force of GS upgraded before Feudalism. After we get this tech either through GL (preferred), trade, or research we will not be able to build them since we have already had our GA. Galleys, I think, are our best defense, but a mobile land reaction force would be nice, too. When we get to building land units, it should probably be horses, then.

Yep we'll probably be Gallic-less. Horses sound good. MDI arent bad if we only leave the enemy a couple places to land at. If we get math soon, cats would be good.

I somehow missed this post earlier.

I remember learning something about a successful "wall of wood" in the history books I've read.

I know I don't want to see boats prowling our waters. I don't know how it works in this game, but I hope it goes something like "leave or give us war happiness.":)

Looks like the Lighthouse is out. Great Library perhaps? We could build the Colossus, no one has mentioned that yet.

Well, since GLHouse is commercial, I would think the Iroquois are going for that as well since that would give them a GA. Was there any extra info in that post? What's a "research institute" next door? Does the name of the ship "Compensation" mean they might have been going for the Pyramids as well?

We could switch the FP to the Colossus if we wished at the last moment. Might make them mad, but we could offer them a deal for Monarchy later. I guess we should just continue building up at Sugar Mountain and our project at DSOTM and see what the next 5 turns hold in store. Best estimate for GL without switching DSOTM to that now would be 2-5 turns after GA at either site. Maybe we will get math and have SoZ as a fallback as well as HG or ToA. Wonders in the AA are still good culture doublers and money as tourist attractions, no matter what we get.

The Iro need an agri wonder, the only one of which is the Hanging Gardens. Either they or Sumeria will miss out on the wonder GA. If we build Colossus, Korea will too until the end of the MAs IIRC.

There will be competition for Colossus, and there MIGHT be for Great Library. We can build the FP any old time. The Colossus is worth 9 net extra commerce/turn, 10 with FP and 10% corruption (1.2 rounded up). I dont know what the FP is worth. I still think the GL is worth the most.

The good thing is we dont need mapmaking as urgently now and can get some cheaper techs first.

I checked what the FP would do civ-wide last turn. IIRC it was worth about +20 gpt in our GA. I'll check again if you want. We can complete the GL in 14 turns or the Colossus in 6 now or 22 later at DSOTM. I think we should try GL at DSOTM now and go for the FP at Sugar Mountain, but fall-back plans are fuzzier.

GA inducing wonder denial would be pretty sweet.

I agree with this. Team Babe's plans for a wonder GA have been set back. I think they must have been going for a GA and were probably going for the Pyramids. They probably even planned to have either the Colossus or Lighthouse built at the same time to avoid losing out to a cascade. Now they either need to get to Monarchy before the build completes, go for the Library and hope two teams (Sumeria now wants it, too, if they want to join in) or use their MW's. They could also wait and try for Cope's to get one. If they were going for the Colossus before as their second wonder, they've probably missed out on the Library. If they were timing the Lighthouse to complete with the Pyramids, on the other hand, they would still be in the running for this.

More turns are needed, I think, to see what other teams have in store. I think the possibilities now are:

1. Team Babe (Iroquois): HG, Cope's, or MW's
2. The Council (Korea): Colossus (or Late Smith's) and either Library or MoM (late UU)
3. Team Saber (Ottomans): Library or MoM and HG or Great Wall (late UU)
4. Team Free (Sumeria): HG and either Library or MoM, or Enkidu's

We are near 100% certain to get either Colossus, Library, or HG and still have the yet useful ToA as backup without eating shields. SoZ, Oracle, Sun Tzu's, KT, Leonardo's, Sistine, and Bach's help no team with this.

A determined Ottoman team should have gotten the Pyramids, so they are late, still with good chances. The Council could surely already have had Colossus and MoM, so they are late. Team Free could be close to the Library if they were hoping for the Pyramids, but also needs HG.

Time will tell, but I think diplomacy will be huge and everybody should start thinking more about this.

From what I can see in the UN Babe's just completed the big bronze guy and since they're com (aren't they?) they will be golden by now.
Then again I'm a bit hungover from the post-gig party y-day so I might be off target.

:beer: --> :crazyeye:

Edit: Oh, my 2 neurons decided to hook up and the result was an "Aha, The Lighthouse not The Bronze guy"-moment. Too bad my microscopic input is anything but useful so far. Anyways, I just mowed the lawn and has popped a can o lager so I can't be all bad.

Here's another, Daghie:beer:

I made the same mistake myself earlier and I was drinking coffee.

Seriously, all input is valuable. The best diplomacy deals throughout history have come from those who played the game of "what if..." the best. If we see we can make mistakes ourselves we can see better how others might do the same.:)

Any thoughts on what SoZ for Korea means? Should somebody make a response in the threads of these wonder announcements? I'm not too experienced with posting in forums, but we should probably say something, since they responded to our announcement. In fact, it was announced by Babe even before we did.
