Department of Turnplay

I think I can send the settler "far" down to the grassland tile by the Southern lake. This will pop the hut at just the right time. Gets there in 3 with Alpha in 2 but we will turn off research and rush a settler. Then we will put research on BW and pop Masonry or the Wheel, unless someone would like some other order of events.

We need orders King Perfection!

You know, it is kind of odd that no one has found us by now.

My guess is that everyone is busy trying to populate their own little continent and not yet willing to pay for suicide galleys.

Just an update of KC's earlier demographic's breakdown...

Approval- 1.... Doesnt mean much. Someone has a 2nd lux connected.
Population- 1 .... Makes sense since Korea and Ottomans are at sizes 5 and 6. This is based on high population in cities not total. Our % of total world pop is still 20.
GNP- 1. Looks pretty good for gold rate. Probably we will overtake this if we remain #1 in food per turn.
Land area and GDP- 4 (was 3)..... Argis flexing their traight.
Literacy- 5 useless this early.
Disease- 4 @11% (was #1 at 15%)
Pollution - 1 irrelevant.
Life expectancy- 4... (Dropped from 3)
Family size - #1... This is the key stat. We have more excess food than anyone atm.
Annual Income - 5 (was 2nd). someone has a second lux connected it seems or knows someone else.
Productivity- Still #1, (good job!) means the total amount of uncorrupted gold, unwasted shields, and excess food you are producing in all your cities. This is again pretty good.

Good work. Looks like some of the others know each other.

We pop Masonry! Research is switched to Writing in 5 turns. Pyramids in 9 turns.

Genius! I would have, if playing solo, popped those huts long ago. Very well done to set that up!

The S.S. JB (a curragh) is commissioned in Ring of Fire rather than a worker. It will be out next turn.

I'm honored. *Tears fall to the keyboard.*

Also, how does "annual income" indicate if communications have been established? Does trading techs boost annual income?

I thought it was +1 for a lux connection and +1 for knowing someone. I dont know the intricacies of this however.

I can't claim to really know how this works, but the following is the definition of annual income from the War Academy article How the Demographics Work:

Annual Income: The number of connected strategic/luxury resource types in your territory. The minimum value is 1 and you get a +1 bonus for your first trade route with another civ. Thanks DaveMcW

The way I read this, we could be behind because other teams have connected their luxuries and either/both horses and iron. The bonus from trade route, I take to mean they have harbors/roads connected to each other's capitals. I think the former is more likely on this map, but I don't know for sure.

Hmm didnt know it included strategic resources. That is probably it.

And hack away when the save comes in. We just need to unfog the north and west and settle a bunch of towns. There are warriors to clear the fog north so that is probably the next settling priority.

OK, if other have met it's about a zero chance that they have a connected route. That is, going on the assumption we're all on islands. We should keep an eye on Annual income rank once we start making contacts to see if it changes. Since it's likely cummulative everyone will eventually settle into a spot and stay there. I would rank "Annual Income" among the bottom of the demographics.

The question was raised what to build in our GA

I support building the FP in DSOTM first (particularly if that only takes 8 turns!

I support building workers and settlers in all those places that can.

I would put DSOTM on a ToA build after the FP, 12 turns is 300 sheilds (if 8 turns is 200), which gets us most of the way there, the maintainance saving and happiness bonus will be good, and it will kick start the culture. I still like the ToA for the celts, because although the temples are cheap, the Uni's you are giving up are expensive. If we go feudal, the reduction in upkeep is important. I tried a HoF game without the ToA and was forced back into republic to generate enough cash to pay for upkeep costs.

For other cities I would favour Libraries. They will help for both culture (if we go that way) and science (if we don't). They are full price for Celts, and starting them in the GA just takes the edge off that cost.

I'm not so sure that Glib will be hugely beneficial, I suspect that someone who doesn't get it will research the tech that obsoletes it and trade it to minimise its usefulness.

Eh, TGL is worth something like 7000 gold here in this situation if we only attain first tier MA techs and then they zoom to Education. That is pretty darn good. We would just be backwards as all hell until we meet some people; we can rush curraghs though. It also might mean we cant switch to Feudalism for some time. We could switch to despo for a few turns though when our population is up so that isnt too bad and switch back to monarchy or hopefully republic.

From the random ideas dept, if we want to forget 100k, we could build TGL and turn on research once we find others and get Feud, do some research, and have a perfectly timed prebuild for Leos. Upgrade 125 warriors to gallic swords, and research to Navigation, and have at it.

I think we should just sit and wait and see what happens. Maybe we dont get Pyramids; we can keep our options open with the ToA build.

By the same token , ToA is worth 1500 sheilds plus 50gpt (based on 50 cities), valuing those sheilds at 4 gold (i.e. rush cost) and the gpt at 20 also gives 7000 gold, but its only worth it if we are going for 100k (we wouldn't build the temples otherwise) - but lets see what happens - we should aim to get one or the other (assuming we get the pyramids!)

If we are each on an island can anyone else get a wonder triggered GA?

I think the key is waiting to see what happens as you both point out. DSOTM is currently losing 5 shields out of 20 and would gain 10 shields in the GA. I'm not sure, but I think it will fall just short of the 25-shield per turn threshhold for an 8-turn FP, 9-turns is more likely. With the cities we have now plus those left from the dotmap, I count 55 cities before we run out of room.

The answer to this is yes.
Iroquois: Colossus + HG
Sumeria: TGL or MoM + HG
Korea: TGL or MoM + Colossus
Ottomans: TGL or MoM + Great Wall

Two ways of thinking with the Great Library - We we meet everyone late we may get more techs than just up to Education. I once captured the GL (SG- DI2) when everyone was in the IA and we had a 20+ tech slingshot.

It we are so inclined and want to make contact, the Lighthouse may be worth pursuing. It may get us contact a lot earlier. Suicide Gallies may be a good idea as well. I would vote against contact, at least until we have a much stronger military.
