i discovered iron, , made 3 swordsmen and my iron was depleted. WTH.

what are the chances more pops up in my territory?

Every time a resource depletes, a new one appears somewhere else on the map. Your best bet is to look for the nearest source and claim it either by settlement or conquest.

The resources deplete according to a figure set in the editor, I can't remember the exact details about the frequency, but I wouldn't like to try to wait for it to appear.

Someone probably knows the exact odds somewhere. But I'd say on average I see resources shifting like that maybe 3-4 times a game, and usually my games last in the 300-400 turn range.

I'd say the outlook isn't good.

In your editor, you can adjust the frequency in the appearance and disappearance of your strategic and luxury resources. What Bartleby says is correct. It does depend on what the settings are for the biq you're playing. I would suggest that you create a new biq scenario and change the values in that as opposed to changing your original Civ biq.

In the editor, go to the Natural Resources tab/page. There you'll find a drop-down menu that lists all the resources you have in the game. The appearance/disappearance ratio is listed in the boxes below.

The F1 Help says the following about those two settings:

Appearance Ratio (Resource Properties)
Determines how many instances of the selected resource appear per player in the game. In an
eight-player game, a value of 160 would mean 2 of each resource per player. Note that even
if this number indicates that there are two resources per player in the game, this does not
mean that each player will have access to those two resources. Setting this value to zero
means the resource will be distributed at random.

Note that resource placement is also limited by which terrain types can support the given
resource.

Disappearance Probability (Resource Properties)
Determines the frequency with which the selected resource can disappear from the map
(simulating the effects of "using up" a resource), forcing players to find a new source of
the resource. A value of 800 would mean that there is a 1 in 800 chance each turn to "lose"
the resource. Setting this value to zero means the resource will never disappear.

Note that this value is not influenced by use; a resource can disappear even if a
civilization has never used the resource.

Note 2: "Lost" resources will always re-appear somewhere else on the map, so the fundamental
amount of resources in a game world will never drop below the amount set in the appearance
ratio.

You might leave Horses at the original setting, as Horses are usually not a problem acquiring and do not disappear. Iron you may want to put at 350. You also might want to make it so that Iron does NOT disappear. Personal preference.

Coal you might want at 360. It's really up to you. Experiment with the different resources. Maybe put Wines or other luxuries at a level where you can attain 3 luxuries fairly easy. Don't take any luxuries too high though, as the game will start giving you more of the same lux, which does you no good.

Good luck!

It's also limited to a few resources, most of them stay the entire game. Iron and coal I'm pretty sure about, what other ones will disappear?

usually my stuff like iron will disappear and reappear on the same spot lol
