I was recently going through my old Ps1 games and found a copy of a game called descent. It places you as a mercenary hired to destroy an alien race that has taken over a large series of interplanetary mines. The amount of weaponry and level variants is very good for a game of that time(published in 1995). Has anyone else heard about it or played it? There is also a version for PC.

yeah ihave it for PC it's pretty good, but i have never escaped with the hostages alive, and i havent gotten past the third level so im not that good, but I didnt really spend that much time on it.

Yes I remember it on PC. It was a great game as far as i remember :).

Ah, I had that game years ago. It was pretty good, but I could never get past the third or fourth level.

It was a pretty strange idea really- a doom style corridor shooter where you pilot a spaceship (I hope I'm remembering the same game here!). Its probably not aged very well though.

It certainly hasn't. It was a really good game in it's day but not so much now.

I've also got descent 2 and 3. Plus the not really sequel descent:freespace and freespace 2. All good games, especially the freespace pair.

It is still a great game. I Remember hating some of the bots because of their fighting style. I mean they had AI compared to any other 3D shooter of that era. I think it had a superior 3D engine too. Dynamic lights anyone? 3D modelled enemies? If IIRC the PC version was out in year 1994.

Ah yes, that was a pretty good game. I had the PC versions of Descent and Descent 2.

Yeah, this was Doom on steroids. I loved how twisted up you would get and the fact you had to think 3d or get ambushed. Plus you had to love bot tactics. It was hard though, very hard. Never got past the first boss(level 7). You shoot and shoot but he doesn't die.

Freespace picked up when the X-wing series went in terms of space fighter simulations.

Yes it was hard. The first boss isn't impossible. Just keep hitting him and use all missiles you've got. If I remember correctly I finished the game on hotshot? difficulty. After the shareware episode the enemy bots really start to get harder. Those military bots with plasma? cannons were a real problem. I remember running out of energy because you just had to shoot so much and bots dodged more than half of your shots. It went like this. Kill bots, Recharge, Kill more bots, Recharge, etc.
