When i play civilization 4 in single player, there are some text bugs. Stuff like TXT_KEY_TRAIT_CHARISMATIC instead of Charismatic. TXT_KEY_CIV_KOREA_DESC instead of Korea. Help plzzzz:mad:

Hey bud,
would you happen to be Korean, or at least someone not using an OS installed in English?
I had the same problem, because I live in South Korea and I had my default encoding for non-unicode programs set to Korean (I use a Korean downloading program).
I set it to US English and it works fine now.
Civ4 Warlords 사용하여 non-unicode programs을 위한 언어를 영어(미국)로 바꿔야 하신데요.
If you're not Korean: switch the default language for non-unicode programs to US English.
The problem lies in the conversion of Spanish characters - I suppose you could open the description files and change all locations where the xml will fail to parse (where the faulty Spanish encoding compromises the syntax of the code).
Have fun!

im pretty sure it has to do with faulty xml syntax because of stupid unicode. ind of annoying

I got this problem when use a pirated copy of Warlord - Sorry for that, but offical version of civ4 was banned by Chinese Culture Department for some damned political or ideological problems in their head.

That`s text files missing or damaged, I recommend you buy a offical copy.If you can`t, you can download a better privated version. Of course, getting someone to send you the text files in Warlords and then replacing the old files with them also solves this.

I've a similar problem, its one that a couple of other people seem to have, but no-one seems to have posted a solution to it, basically certain descriptions seem to be missing and a couple of items seem to be out of sync, i.e. the change religion button isnt there, I think its a problem with one of the xml files, either incomplete or damaged, but Ive done a full re-install, cleared all the caches and files left behind, I even defragged after uninstalling, and still doesnt work. Yet I know the cd is fine, because it has installed perfectly before. Any help appreciated.

I have a Korean PC and the OS was installed in Korean, yet the default language was at the time I got the same error, Western European English. Would changing it to US English allow me to play Warlords without the error? I don't think so--I'll have to fiddle with all those Spanish characters and such. But how do I do this:

"I suppose you could open the description files and change all locations where the xml will fail to parse (where the faulty Spanish encoding compromises the syntax of the code)." ?

I'm no computer whiz, so I have no idea what you were saying there, Claudius...

Reinstalling the game hasn't worked for me, and this computer can run Civ IV perfectly fine (except for some sound issues, which I might get to later). It's a Windows XP, with a fully patched Warlords and Civ IV and the annoying text error is still there. GRAH. HELPPPPP.

NO ONE IS WILLING TO OR CAN HELP? WHAT? Surely some of you know how to manipulate XML and such? PLEASE HELP! O_o

Welcome to the forums! [party] :band:   :bounce: :woohoo:
I heard about items being missing because the harddrive had bad sectors, maybe you could try checking the harddrive for bad sectors? (Shot in the dark, and I have no idea how to do that anyway. :()

its not gonna help but i had the same problem with the mod c iv gold

you could deal with it?

Actually, no? I think I'll wait til I get back to America to play this game again. The bug is uber annoying.

Ah yes, and 2K games said they'd move my request for a solution to second level support, but they didn't say anything else in response. Bah.

You probably shouldn't do this, but if you're that desperate, you could try tooling around with your registry.... I wouldn't reccommend that though, because you could seriously f*ck up your computer that way.

How would I change the registry? As desperate as I am for a solution, I'd like to know how to do it first, otherwise, it is likely that someone as computer illiterate as me will screw up this computer majorly (and it's a family computer, mind, so that would suck triple time).

I have the same problem, and have had since Warlords came out - not the Vanilla game though. It's very annoying. For instance, in Rhye's, I can't read what most of the special attributes of the civilizations are; I can't read any of the stability categories, etc. If playing a standard game, as Byzantines, it wants to name all my cities exactly the same screwy name TEXT_ [snip]CONSTANIOPL (note the missing e as it gets truncated, naking the computer think the name is free...)

I play on a computer that's running a Japanese OS.

I can't believe nobody knows how to fix this. Whenever I load a game, there are a number of error messages - mostly about Spanish language IIRC that come up; more in the Rhe's mod than others.

Regards, Luke
