Destroy a building / Abandon a city

It would be good to have a button for this. I was searching for correct command, as well.

Abandon City hasn't worked correctly since RoM 2.91. Some change in RoM 2.92 broke it.

I thought so too, but it seems to be working fine in my version of RoM, which is a modded version of RoM 2.92/AND 1.74H. Great, now I am going to have to look at what I did, to see if I did indeed fix the problem and post a patch. So much for moving forward on other stuff:mischief:

1.75A

I razed few buildings and even abandoned a city in my latest game. No problem here...

When you get "abandoning a city" working (if it doesn't work already), would it be possible to implement a button in the city screen for it?

It works in 1.75A, period. No idea why it doesn't for you. Issues with your installation maybe?

Yes, but it is simple one hand (thumb and forefinger) key strikes. Why do you want a button.

Anyway, Afforess already said that 1.75A will ever be updated with bugfixes, that's it. It is in feature freeze now.

os79, I remember how you rallied like hell for automations in quite a number of mods, so why do you crack down on my little question? I just asked for a small button which I wouldn't consider a "feature" - I know that AND is now feature-locked -, just a little interface-related help for people who can't remember all these different shortcuts - in accordance with the "philosphy" of BUG - and thus AND - to have everything as accessible to the player as possible.
Well, as I said I just asked and won't pursue this button-issue further.

Apologies for looking like "cracking down". It must had been wrong wording. I was just asking questions. Well, if you do get a button functioning, that would be great for you :D.

You are a long time player so you have a potential to learn modding skills so you can ask Afforess how to do that for yourself or if you luck out, have it be added in next patch (doubt it but you never know).

How about letting me answer?

I've always considered abandoning cities and selling buildings to be a cheat, as the AI can not do it, but the player can. I've left the feature in purely because of it's popularity, but I'm not going to spend any time promoting what I view as a cheat. Sorry.

AI never abandon a city? Wow, I didn't know that. Thanks for the info.

Thanks, os79. Then I misunderstood you. No hard feelings. :)

I didn't know that. Thanks for letting me know. That puts things in a different perspective. Now I understand your reluctance in that regard.

For those who have a game of Rise of Man going and have not installed AND yet (like I have), you can just copy across the AbandonCityEventManager.py file from the AND 1.75B mods folder (when you install it) into your original Rise of Man folder, overwriting the existing file, and it will work fine with your existing games.

You can always donate cities to a vassal.

Historically, what nation any of you know which has razed one of its cities out of the blue? Sure, cities would be conquered and razed to the ground, rebuilt by their former owners and razed again... and again...

But nations never blow up their own cities willingly, these nations may forfeit the right to govern them when abiding to capitulation rules and so forth, but that's something else, the population is not lined up and shot. As far as the great game goes, population is a resource, invaders raze cities and kill civilians they can't keep, to deprive their enemies of said resource.

It's a wise choice to not have an abandon city button.

And .. before i forget, 300+ strength for the nanite clouds, really? That's insane x_X

This is clearly not true, cities have been abandoned throughout history, for a variety of reasons, usually when a town no longer becomes economically viable or due to depletion of natural resources.

That said, the way it is handled currently - whereby the population just vanishes - is a bit weird.
