destroying cities?

I have played civ3 before (vanilla) so I understand the game basics. I just borrowed the game from a friend and fired it up,I chose the Aztecs. After raising a army I attacked one of my neighbors cities expecting to capture it,but the computer automatically destroyed it. I attacked another city to have the same results,after looking through my settings I found nothing on destroying cities instead of capturing them.

So help me

A town will auto raze, if it is size 1 and has less than 10 culture, unless the citizen is native to you. That was changed way back.

yeah that can be annoying in the AA when the AI never has any culture in any city besides the capital. Those cities, no matter how small and cultureless, are valuable in ancient times

Also, I would recommend getting the 1.29f patch. It'll make life easier.
