[Development Thread]WW1 Mod: Blood and Iron

Is anyone else assigned the vice team leader? Because if not were gonna have a lot of time before Smitty's back to play around! :crazyeye:
Don't look at me... I'm just the head of the Naval Department... I can't run the state!

Well I guess we'll have to work with what we have for now since I'm pretty sure he's the only one with the xml! But hopefully we can have the first test version out in a month or two!

Hey, this looks really cool, guys!
If you still need any help with Civilizations, leaders, and alliances in Europe, I have it all in this spoiler (though you probably have it all anyways)
Spoiler :

United Kingdom D. Llyod George Allies
Germany Kaiser Wilhelm II Central Powers
France Georges Clemenceau Allies
Austria-Hungary Emperor Franz Joseph Central Powers
Italy Victor Emmanuel III Neutral - Allies
Spain Alfonso XIII Neutral
Portugal Pimenta de Castro* Neutral - Allies
Russia Tsar Nicholas II Allies
Soviet Union V.I. Lenin Neutral
Romania Ferdinand I of Romania Neutral - Allies
Bulgaria Tsar Ferdinand I Neutral-Central Powers
Serbia Peter I Allies
Montenegro Nicholas I Allies
Albania Prince William of Wied Neutral
Greece Constantine I Neutral - Allies
Ottoman Empire Enver Pasha Neutral-Central Powers
Belgium Albert I Neutral - Allies
Netherlands Queen Wilhelmina Neutral
USA Woodrow Wilson Neutral - Allies

If you're wondering, I was studying this era and WWII for a month in school.

*Portugal underwent several changes in leadership during WWI. I picked de Castro because (IIRC) he led the government during the futile Portuguese military operations in Europe.

Sultan Mehmed V shouldn't be the leader of the Ottomans as he had no political power. War Minister Enver Pasha would be more appropriate.

Yeah. I got some of this off Wikipedia, and I wasn't sure about its accuracy or whatever. I'll edit the post.

Hey. Im a newbie in that i didnt know that there was such extensive work done on mods and that sort of thing. this WWI Blood and Iron mod looks pretty WOW!!! compared to all the others. Really good work

Welcome to CFC broddie! [party]

Yep it's been done before and it's still being done! Hopefully we will have a release in another month!

I was wondering what you all had in mind for gas? Im sure you have something conjured up, but I was thinking something like the fallout from ICBMs. Just color it green or yellow. Plus it would make that square unable to be used until it had been cleaned up. I know that when mustard gas was used it would stay in the soil for some time and soldiers were a little reluctant to occupy trenches that they knew had been gassed with mustard gas.

I'm still working on the mod, even though I don't have much time or access to stuff - Maybe I'll be able to post what's done for now sometime soon.

Just come across this...and have spent the workday reading through all 23 pages!

A truly jaw dropping amount of effort has gone into this, and I'd like to doff my cap to you all but particularly snafusmith for what looks like will be the eater of much of my civ time at some point in the future!

One question I have is whether it would be possible to have negative 'promotions' - possibly either permanent or permanent. If so you could perhaps have the following

Shellshock - a chance that troops in combat will be given this promotion which makes them less combat effective.

Mutiny- perhaps a temporary 'promotion' that there is a percentage chance a losing unit will have applied to them. If the unit is subsequently attacked there would be a further chance that the unit will be routed (ie; unit dissolves)

Combat Veteran - each time a unit enters combat, they have a chance of gaining this skill. This would reduce the likelihood of a unit receiving Shellshock or Mutiny.

Regarding units, is the intention that for example once Tanks are available, the player will build them ahead of Light Tanks and similarly Light Tanks ahead of Armoured Cars - or do each of the vehicles have their own niche? If the latter I'm kind of wondering if - in game terms - there they are distinct enough from each other (which I hate to ask 'cos the models are fabulous)

Will the ability to upgrade some units be disabled? ie; no upgrading your early fighter to a late fighter? Though I guess that has promotion implications (ie; if you have a highly promoted fighter pilots, you would want them in the best planes available)

I think I initially misread this note on Stormtroopers.

Also, units like the 'Storm Trooper' aren't just an infantry model, but a composite of several different units in a formation - in this case, storm stroopers include light (portable) machinegunners, flamethrowers, grenadiers, standard infantrymen, etc.

...at first I thought the implication was that once the unit is available, that it couldn't actually be built, but instead would have to be an existing infantry unit that is upgraded. On reflection I assume it was a reference to the actual appearance of the model...but I think it would be really good if Storm Troopers could only be created from existing Infantry with a certain level of experience to represent them being battle hardened vets given the latest equipment.

I love some of the concepts that are being taken, Arms Trading, trenches, unit kills, my mouth has dried up just thinking about playing it!

Anyhow, I'll look forward to watching the progress of this mod!

ah one final question relating to unit kills - does that imply that the cost to build a unit will need to be pretty high and/or maintenance of units becomes high?

One thing I see missing from this mod/scenario is turkey or whatever it called itself during the time. They were a key ally to Germany and Austria at the time and this mod looks like its going to leave them out.
I only read the first page of this thread so sorry if they were mentioned later

I released the units....
No Ottomans and no early US troops and no flamethrowers for anyone except Germany...
will come later, when you are back smitty.

have a look at the Unit Graphics subforum ;)

When you say this do you mean no playing as ottomans in the mod or you didnt finish their units

Sezereth is the figure maker for the mod, and he's yet to make the ottoman infantry units for the mod. I (snafusmith) am the main person working on the mod, and the Ottomans are definitely in.

Ok great. Could you post some world builder save or a detaled explanation on exactly how much of WW1 this mod is encompasing. Also get some sort of list of possible civs in the mod along with which years this mod is encompasing. Im really looking forward to the relase date of this mod and im sorry that due to my total lack of programing knowlege that I cant help out.

Good Luck.

Everyone can help! Even if you can't MOD you can still do research and post some of your ideas that will help us MOD it to perfection!

Also with the Europe map who many plots do you want it?

Work on the mod continues: I'm happy to announce that all of the aircraft needed for Germany are complete! France and British only lack 2 per nation (Dorand AR.1/Nieuport VIH and RAF RE.8/Sopwith Tabloid, respectively). The other nations are all at least 30% done, though many only lack a handful.

Here are the latest aircraft and skins for the various air forces:

Albatros C.III:

Airco D.H.4:

SPAD VII and XIII:

I've also made progress on more vehicles; here are some rough work in progress shots to show of the German LK.II light tank and 7.7cm Fk field gun:

LK.II:

7.7cm FK:

Finally, the new naval mine system has been implemented and works great. Mine tenders can lay mine fields around an enemy's coast blocking commerce and ship movements. Easily cleared by the tenders, the mines are extremely dangerous to unsuspecting warships!

Naval Mine:

I keep clicking, but I can't seem to be able to download the skins! :groucho:
