Developmental ideas for possible industial age mod

Me big. Me angry. You die.

That's basically the idea of declaring war. You don't need a stateman to do that. You would however need one to make peace and one could argue that statemen would be needed in order not to offend 3rd party counties.

Well, it depends how absolute your power is. You might have to reason the war for your ministers, parliament, army and generals, and to the common people. And yeah statesmen could calm down 3rd party powers too. Maybe player could decide how much political/diplomacy points he wants to spend for the war preparations. If spending too few the result might anger domestic and foreign entities.

I see statesmen as politicians, officials, civil servants etc. I just think it could be interesting to expand their role in the game.

However while we can make something great, it can also ruin the game. Implementing changes in something as fundamental as diplomacy needs to be thought through.

The idea might not necessary suit well for Medieval mod, but for my own mod it might add new dimension of gameplay. I don't see how it could ruin a game, if it does, it was implemented badly. That's true for almost every feature.
