The World Behind The Wind
Fast forward to the year 1592. The Ming China that shuns contact with the outside world now faces serious challenges to its power. Aside from internal decay, corruption and rebellion, the Manchus to the north are gaining strength, and in the east a resurgent Japan under Toyotomi Hideyoshi had invaded its vassal Korea. Off its shore, the island of Macao had been occupied by white barbarian merchants calling themselves the Portuguese - as of now they are no more than a minor irritation to the vast Celestial Empire.
Further west, the European newcomers are much more active in India, but the century belonged to the Mughals, who have established a strong and flourishing empire in the north of the subcontinent under Akbar the Great. In South East Asia, various kingdoms competed for supremacy, while at sea the various European powers competed for dominance over the lucrative spice trade.
This is East Asia in the late 16th century. Places of unimaginable wealth but also of wretched poverty. Lands of opportunity as well as of danger and peril. Empires striving for peace but only knowing war. This is a story of competing religions and economic interests, of empires fighting for power, wealth, or security, of rapidly changing times, challenged traditions and new innovations and ideas. It is also your story, as you lead one of the Asian or European powers through these turbulent times.

Hi everybody.
A couple of weeks ago I played Yoda Power's East Asia Mod for Civ3 Conquests and that inspired me to create a mod for Civ4 centering on East Asia. I moved the time frame up a bit - the mod starts in 1592, the year of the start of the Imjin War. Also around this time Europeans are starting to become a major influence in the region, and the Manchus are gaining strength. I plan for it to continue all the way to the Industrial Age and the first years of the 20th century.
This mod is pretty ambitious and quite large in scope. Everything is still in its preliminary stages and I'm open for ideas and suggestions, which is what this thread is mainly for. As things become more solidly developed I will add to this thread, so if you are interested in helping with the project (especially in matters of artwork) watch this space.
Features (so far):
- Economic victory
- Mercenaries
- Overhauled corporations and religions
- New Great People
Civilizations:
Stages of Development:
Stage 1 - Planning and initial outline development
Stage 2 - Actual modding
Stage 3 - Alpha testing and additional modding - will be done by myself and other people on request
Stage 4 - Beta testing
Stage 5 - Finished product.
The aim is to be at at least Stage 3 by the end of the year, and stage 5 no later than March or April 2009.
Progress so far
1. Civilizations - 5%
2. Tech Tree - 5% (drafting)
3. Units and Buildings - 0%
