I was playing as the Aztecs, sharing borders with the Mayans and one Portugese city, with the Dutch, the Portugese and the Zulu nearby but overseas or the other side of Maya. I'm late AA (researching Rep, still need Con.), the Mayans are the same, the others are all ahead with probably 2-4 MA techs by now.
I go to war with the Portugese, hoping to smash-and-grab a nearby city with Ivory. I get an MGL which I use to create an army. Later, I go to war with the Mayans and pop a second MGL. I can't yet build the FP, but should be able to with another 4-5 cities (which I'll probably have at the end of this war. The mayans are a complete mess and I have a lot of Ancient Cavs, Jaguar Warriors and cats. running around). I used the MGL to build a second army, but I'm not sure that it was the right thing to do. At the end of the war I had to wait a ridiculously long time for the FP build in Chichen Itza.
Generally, would it have been better to use the MGL to rush the FP at the end of a longer, costlier war, or to use it to make an army and make the war easier?
