Did anyone ever figure out a way to play a multiplayer game as single player?

Here's the scenario...playing a game with the wife, she gets hopelessly behind, wants to quit. With Civ IV, there was a retire option or something iirc. Now, though, I can't find a way to save and actually be able to re-load as multiplayer. Ideas?

Just start the game, and have her lose her connection to the internet or lan. And continue playing. Next turn save it, and you should be able to play on from then onward without her.

Nope, tried that...still would have to have a second person connect in order to play as it won't let me load it as a single player, even then. Just seems ridiculous to have to start up two computers every time I go to play because she was in the game at some point...

It is to prevent cheating by loading MP games as SP games. It may suck for you personally, but otherwise some players would load the game on a second computer and look at the map etc.

Should be a setting that you could turn off in friendly games. At least you should be able to retire form a game and allow the other player to keep playing.

I think that if you let the other person in the game quit.....finish the next turn. And then save you should be able to load without the other person.

Also, maybe you could just take it easy on your wife so she doesn't quit? Civ sposal abuse anyone? :) kidding! Mine just expects me to stop playing when she gets home from work!
