In order to avoid flaming and nerve broking in OT, I suggest a measure which I personally dislike:

No threads about US/EU relations.
I keep always a relative calm, I think, but this is a real nerve recking! Posters (not saying names for now... but it is all published in the thread) are simply to flamers towards Euros and then we start answering and the confusion goes up.
Also, I understand you are US and thus you probably don't like this so, before I and other Euros get problems I would advise this. Or it would be very unfair to see some saying the nonesense they normally use and have to leave them get away with that.

I still remember the 1st time I was banned for 3 days it was because of 5 simple rotl about Bush and expectations about him!!! So I would like to avoid that and to avoid also to see some sort of things without having the possibility of answering to them.

Thx for your time.
Please think about this and then say what you have come up to.

Backing a loser here, Portuguese!

It's an American site - European/USA debates are part of the decor.

If someone steps out of line, report it to a mod...
But don't expect action - Peon-bashing is a widespread sport these days...:(

I didnt the fighting its causeing, but we cant get rid of threads over a few flaiming eggs.

What???

The amount of threads on a particular topic can be limited like with the Middle East at one point but it to ban an entire topic would probably just see it spread into other threads.

An old debating chestnut for all debates involving the banning of something or other is to say "You'll only drive it underground".

People will merely meet up in the less well moderated parts of civfanatics and have their illegal EU/USA bashing threads, old-time posters will resort to DLs to continue their interest in this, the most enjoyable of topics, why the USA is bad ;)

They tried to ban Anti-Bush threads and comments once. Some bad stuff happened.

Bad things happened because it was wrong.
They wanted to rid Bush-bashing, but Blair-bashing, Chirac-bashing, etc. would still have been allowed. That stunk of hypocrity.

They should do what most forums do... ban the political talk. I have seen NOTHING productive come out of any of these discussions, outside of more animosity and bitterness. The amount of ignorance and hatred I've seen in some of these threads is staggering.

I decided to personally ban myself from these discussions in the Off Topic forum.

I note that a rather bland thread on the average American has been closed. If dogmatic assertions could be screened out, it would provide valuable insights both for Americans and outsiders. Ditto for any other countries.

But would that mean more scrutiny and work for the "poor" mods? ;)

I know what you are referring to, and I still think we need to shove all the politics and Current Events into a seperate Forum (now superslug, among others, will tell me to stop campaigning for the issue - -just you watch . . . ).

Or, lets just make a seperate "Spam, Flames, and Trolling Forum" where people can do all those things all they want, and no Mods will stop them!!! Would simplify things a bit . . .

That's been implemented for mailing lists and seems to be a safety valve for the pentup flamers. The normal lists are moderated but it's a free for all in the no-holes-barred list.

People can flame over anything, stopping EU/US threads wouldn't stop anyone from being offensive, so this thread is useless and you're incredibly stupid for bringing it up.

Edit: See :smug:

Flaming, definitely. No contest there!!!

I am guilty of bringing up "useless" topics, many a time over!!!

There's nothering wrong with a good flame every once and a while.
