Difficulties running Running Civ II

Hello, I have just recieved a version of Civ II: Gold Edition Multiplayer from Amazon.com, supposedly near mint condition, and already I am having difficulty installing it. When I try to run the disk, a pop up appears claiming this:

Windows cannot read from this disk. The disk might be corrupted, or it could be using a format that is not compatible with windows.

I am currently running a Windows XP. Could anyone here offer me some advice on what to do? If neccessary, I will post my computer specs. Thank you in advance.

The original game disks have no problem running in XP. I wonder what you mean by "...near mint condition" - used? Are there scratches on the bottom of the CD?

Another possibility is that you could have a version meant only for Macintosh. Check the label.

Just checked, yes it is made for macintosh. I'll have to order a new one. Again, thanks for your help.
