Hello all,

I'm looking for any interested in this style of game. I'm online usually late night US EST

Settings I would like to play with.

Marathon
Earth Huge Map
Up to 8 players

Not sure what else should be added, I haven't seen this type of game form for Civ 5 so far, if any veterans would be interested in helping this become real. By all means lets work something out! Would love to see this turn into a storybook type of game for each civ with screen shots and a storyline thruout the game.

If you arent familiar with diplo games, I last remember them in civ II, should be some way back in the history there. Sadly, I wasn't really a part of MP for 3 or 4.

Well, interest I must say is slacking on this idea. But i'm not giving up! This can be done!

Don't diplo games need Pitboss or PBEM?

I don't really see a need for that. Was thinking along the lines of a 3/4 hour playthru once or twice a week. And during off times we can work on stories lines, etc.

I would join (since the game has some interesting things in the Modern Era to make a diplogame interesting) but I'm going to wait for a few more patches before committing to one.

Thanks for the interest :) Who knows, it might take me that long to get this thing running. But will keep trying.

This process of this sounds really interesting, but I don't really know what a diplogame is. Are there any threads I could follow that would explain.

But I like the idea of a marathon/huge game with a storytelling element.

I currently play in a Civ4 diplo game and it is on pitboss. Also tried gathering 5-6 people for weekly game and it is not that easy. With 8 it will nearly impossible. Not trying to make you give up, but it will be really hard.

So I've been reading a few of the past Diplogames and I am completely down for participating in this if it ever materializes. It sounds like a great time.

I would also like to request a brief (if it is normally lengthy to explain) description of what this type of game entails. There might be other people like myself who may be interested on the face of it but don't want to have to go digging through Civ II forums to find out.

Well, basically we would rewrite history, using a world map. Making up stories about our nations as we play. There would be a always war type of game, but building up civs from the ground and really getting into the city building aspect of it the game also. Perhaps we could try this with 5 or 6 humans and a few AI to help with the stories. We would have to have certain rules about whats allowed, how much we can abuse the ai and or city states. Have a no all out war till death, etc. Ill search out the old threads on diplogames here sometime soon.

totaly impossible to have 8 guys commited 2 evenings per week to civ5.

Just think about yourself - u REALLY think that u ll be able to play 2x4 hours the exact same weeksday?? For like 3 month? dont fool yourself ...
it xmas inc, its holidays, its family, its illness, ...

just use your brain before going for these "great ideas" ;)

Hey, A man can dream. PS. Notice I'm not so much shooting for 8 players twice a week, I'm very flexible with this idea. But when I first thought of it I did think there would be a greater MP crowd than there is so far. The idea is not dead yet.

I think a lot of people thought there would be a larger multi-player crowd than there has been so far...

For anyone interested, I'm doing a good bit of research on this idea tonight and plan to start making something concrete out of this idea.

We have a couple of Civ4 diplogames running on Apolyton, no civ5 diplogames yet. Mostly b/c MP is hard to play in civ5.

We play for civ4 only Pitboss diplogames these days. Right now we need a sub for an 18 player Earth game for India. It's still BC. If you're interested, please join us on Apolyton in the civ4 MP section!

MP isnt as bad in civ5 and it was in civ4 for me.. I always got a OOS. I recently played a 6man teamer without issues in civ5.

They don't necessarily. We played diplogames for years before we discovered Pitboss. We did what saber is suggesting, having a weekly session each week. Somehow we had enough dedicated players to have successful 7 player games for years. Eventually though the strain of scheduling a weekly session (and all the connection issues that came with it) became too much. We discovered Pitboss and have been blessedly content with it since then.

So a non-Pitboss game is certainly possible, but... not something I or the other diplo-vets would probably be open to considering. Pitboss is way easier.

I'm glad you figured it out and like the concept! We are always looking for new players! I hope this Civ5 game gets off the ground, but if not, a great way to get your feet wet into the concept is to sub or take over a civ in an existing game. We currently have one running on Apolyton called Destiny of Empires.

Here is this month's story thread for the game. And here is the organization thread. As you've probably figured out, we role play our nations as if they are real civilizations. We conduct diplomacy, negotiate with our neighbors, and flesh out our nation, our characters and our game with great stories, pictures, videos and other aspects of storytelling. It is great fun! :b:

Destiny of Empires currently has an opening. This game is a Civ4 Pitboss game on an Earth map. It started in like August or September, we are around 150 turns in (on Epic speed). There are 18 players and we need someone to take over India! If you, or saber or anyone else is interested, please check this thread out.

Or check in at the organization thread because we always need subs. People go on vacation, have connection issues, etc. I think the Arabs need a sub right now actually. Pop in and let us know you are interested. :b:
