Diplomacy: bug or feature

On a large map, with about 12 civilizations, the diplomacy window will show only the first seven civs that I come across. That is fine for the time being, since if I had all twelve on the screen there might be just a little bit too much crowding. But...

Once some Civs start dropping from the game, because I or others have been forcefully 'merged', however their place is left blank in the diplomacy table instead of being replaced by another civ that has been left out. This causes quite some difficulties because...

1) I can not call up the leader of civs that are not in the diplomacy table unless I happen to be close to one of their units.

And more importantly

2) I can not tell who is at war with whom.

Is there any ways of solving this problem?

Its a feature, use control-shift and click on a current leader. You will be given choices of the remaining civ leaders to select from. Its is not the best interface in this situation.

The reason behind it is that, for most of the development cycle, Firaxis intended for the max number of civs in a game to be 8, not 16. Apparently this was largely due to performance issues. Thus the interface and so on were designed with that in mind. When this was changed shortly before release (mostly due to requests from fans) there wasn't time left to redesign everything to take that into account.

You can call up all civs you have contact with by going to the bottom right of your screen and clicking on the little "D" button.

hey thats cool, any one got a link to all the hot keys for civ 3, in my eager, unbridled joy to play the game, all the documentation and box for the game was sucked into the large vortex of trash and etcetera that makes up my computer room

F10: Er, hmm, I think Spaceship Progress.
F11: Probably the Top 5 Cities and Demographics. Its mainly the last three buttons that I always mix up.
F12: I'm pretty sure this does nothing. Again, the last 3-4 may not be correct, so anyone who knows for sure should definitely post the right ones.

Whoops. I thought Dannymac only meant the F keys. :crazyeye: Good thing someone here can read posts correctly, D&G!
