Diplomacy Suggestion

Hey Thal,

I don’t see a suggestions spot on the website? I’m probably just blind. I’m in the middle of a great 136 game, enjoying the new alliances concept, open borders, and research agreements. Really promotes playing a diplo type game. One issues I noticed was that when a member of a ‘bloc’ of alliances denounces another member, everyone takes a diplo hit on BOTH civ’s. For example. America, Greece, England, and myself all have alliances with one another. American and Greece decide to denounce one another. England and I take diplo hits against america and greece without even an option to choose a side. So I was wondering if we could get either a choice when the denouncing happens(maybe rename it SANCTIONS), to pick a side, or either remove the diplo hit until we make the choice to renew an alliance with the enemy of either Greece or America. Personally I like the idea of denouncing being turned into a sanctions type diplomatic attack, where former allies are forced to make a choice, either pick a side, which would gain diplo points for one and lose them for another, or remain neutral and not gain/lose any points. I’m not sure how complicated it would be to put in, I’m not a coder, so it might be easier just to remove the diplo point loss until after the player makes a choice to really with a civ.

Thanks

*Copy and pasted it from the comment I made. Thanks Thal. I'm just in the middle of a 136 game, as it says. As I continue to play it out I realize that I am not taking consecutive diplomacy point hits for allying with multiple civ's that are enemies of my former allies. So it pays off WAY TOO STRONG to simply take the one hit and ally with EVERYONE. This allows you to have a massive gold/turn(especially on marathon), and the gold/turn translates into giving the NPC's gold to create research agreements, when also get a massive boost from ally status.

Just my 2c so far! Love the mod though.

Welcome to civfanatics! :goodjob:

I'm glad you like the alliances. I like your idea about sanctions, and I wish we could change diplomacy more with our current modding tools. I'm not sure it's possible to add/remove specific diplomatic modifiers or change how they work. What we do have direct control of are +/- value applied from a modifier. Are you mainly concerned with the "You allied with one of our enemies!" modifier, or a different one?

I've been thinking about showing this numerical value ingame somehow. I looked around the code and it appears it would be difficult to add... Firaxis never intended us to know the exact values. It does seem possible, but would take a lot of busy-work to complete.
