Attached you will find a CIV4DiplomacyInfos.xml stripped of all leader-specific diplo text, and a TC01GameText.xml file (a text file with all text that I have created in it) containing the one additional text string I needed to add.

So, now new civilizations and leaders can be added (and more to the point, old ones can be removed) without causing diplotext issues.

However, that creates another issue. What diplo text do we want to have for varying leaders? A list of leaders and civs (all leaders for a civ could share diplo text) can be found here.

Hmm, I think you might get more feedback if you put a list here, preferably with some examples. Those xml-files do look a bit discouraging for casual helpers such like myself, but I'm sure people would have individual lines to suggest.

I just leafed through the SotE to get some feel what Xizor's lines would be. He's a cultured sort who likes innuendo

Off the top of my head, diplo text is needed for:

  • The first time you meet the other civ
  • Greetings when the leader you contact likes you
  • Greetings when the leader you contact dislikes you
  • When declaring war on you
  • When demanding stuff from you
  • When you refuse the leader's demand
  • When you accept the leader's demand

There are more, but those should be good to start.

Right, Xizor of Black Sun. Mostly with quotes:

The first time you meet the other civ:
Ah, [CT_NAME]. Welcome. I am [OUR_NAME].

Greetings when the leader you contact likes you:
[CT_NAME], what a pleasant surprise.
or
How goes your business, [CT_NAME]? Are things well with [CT_CIV_SHORT]?

Greetings when the leader you contact dislikes you:
This better be good, you've caused me a great deal of trouble.

When declaring war on you:
To contend with [OUR_NAME], is to lose. It is the time you faced this fact.

When demanding stuff from you:
(Weaker) I assure you, granting this would make [OUR_CIV_SHORT] more useful for you.
(Equal) Your cooperation will be suitably... appeciated.
(Stronger) It would please me. You want to please me, don't you?

When you refuse the leader's demand:
A foolish mistake.

When you accept the leader's demand:
The pleasure is mine, [CT_NAME]

Refuse peace:
If you cannot afford to lose, you should not play the game.

Refuse to talk:
Don't bother me.

Tried to put tags in already. I hope they are the correct ones.

Good job Kissamies you want to temporarily take over diplo infos part of the project when your done please send it to me

I think I should try to do a few more in post form like above first. I have a tendency of being too hard on myself qualitywise and then getting nothing done.

have you got a list of civs then, il have a go. Im very dramatic tho, be warned!!!

I linked to it in the first post...

Although, have we even added those civs yet? Weren't they waiting on a diplotext file?

If anyone has free time, they might want to do that.

is there a special way of opening these XML docs?? trying to open them just brings up error messages.

What you should do, is install Notepad++ and make the files by default open with it. (by using the "Open With", "Choose Program", and check the "Make files of this type open by default using this program" option.

You can avoid this if you right click on the file, select "Open With..." and then "Notepad".

True.
I have in the download section a set of everything we've added so far and in the civ section I say which ones have been added. Look aroundd and most of your answers can be found

Kissamies are you working on the Diplo text? We need somebody to do that.
