I just posted this question under general comments and I'm realizing there is a separate section for technical support... Here's my issue:
My wife and I were huge in to this game about 18 months ago. We were using direct IP connect and had no issues. I had Vista 32-bit OS and she had vista 64-bit. I just bought a new computer. Needless to say, it has Windows 7. I was able to install Civ IV (complete) with no issues.
Once It was installed though, we are no longer able to direct IP connect. It says something to the effect of "we need to use the same game configuration" when we try to connect. I have since re-installed the game on both computers so they are identical. I've dropped the firewalls. I need to try the port forwarding, but this doesn't seem like that type of issue.
Are other people able to use Civ IV multiplayer between two computers using Vista and 7? Or is there some other reason causing the issue?
