Direct X is stopping me from playing WTH?

I am having issues with Direct X 9.0 installing, whenever I try to install direct x, it acts as if it is going to install and then a message box on xp opens and says 'A cabinet file for installation cannot be trusted'. I installed the game anyways and it went through all the way but when I tried to run it, it said "This application has failed to start because D3DX9_26.DLL was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem." and it didn't.

I dont know much about DLL files but figured by the name of this one, it is a directx 9.0 DLL and thus I needed direct x and thats why it wasnt working so I ran to microsoft and downloaded direct x 9.0 and went through everything again. By unistalling it all, installing Direct x 9.0, then when the game STILL said the cab file could not be trusted, I just bypassed it and installed it again figuring direct x was now installed and all. But the same 'Unable to Locate Component' message box pops up on me.

Please help me if you know a way I can fix this, this game looks awesome and I have been counting days to play it and now a small DLL file is stopping me and I have no idea where to go or what I need to do.

I have never had problems upgrading Direct X. I had 8.0 before this.

You MUST install the version of DirectX that comes with the game. It is in the /DIRECTX9 folder.

Hmm, i suggest downloading directx 9c from the microsoft page...sounds like a corrupt file. I suppose you could also exchange the game for a different copy, if its the cd that's bad.

Thank you for your fast replies, I will see if I can find anything out. I may throw the towel in for tonight and start fresh on it in the morning. I hope it isnt the disc. Thanks again for your help guys.

Let me know what you find out. I'm having the same problem. I've gotten the game to install, but it gives me an error. Something about not finding d3dx9_26.dll. I hate computers!

Sorry Tarkhan, Firaxias have said (via the sticky at the top), that you can only use the DX that comes with the CD.

Why they'd release a production game with debug libraries is another matter.

That is downright stupid.

DX9c has been out for over a year now, and many of the newer games REQUIRE it to run.

So does this mean it will install it's older/custom version, and then to run Everquest 2 I have to reinstall DX9c every time??

No, the debug libraries are the same version as the retail ones, they just include a lot of extra debug code which makes things run slower.

The kicker? It's exceedingly difficult to remove the debug libraries. Last time I tried, I ended up rebuilding the PC.

"A cabinet file is necessary for installation and cannot be trusted." ERROR during installation. This problem happens in most cases due to system corruption or users disabling their cryptography services. Please try the following steps to see if it resolves the issue.

o Make sure your cryptography services are enabled. To do this, go to my computer | manage | services and applications | services. Then go to cryptography services properties and make sure the service is started and startup type is set to automatic.

o If you are running Windows on a FAT32 drive, run scandisk.

o Try the resolution steps in http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;813442.

o Try the resolution steps in http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;822798.

o Remove temporary files in %temp% and (if installing end-user runtime)
%windir%\system32\directx\websetup Error

Just get it from the Reichstag itself (dumb geek joke, translation: “download it from Microsoft“).

I tryed downloading them from there, but every time I click on the setup.exe file NOTHING happens. Can anyone help??

OK I got it working, thanks to the information put on by you all, to sum it up if yours is still not working, and if your like me and need it simplified. hehe.

1.) Go here and get DLL file your missing. I needed 26 but it may be different for you dunno. all of them are here tho I think. Just Click the one you need and save it to C:/windows/system32/Directx
http://nexe.gamedev.net/directKnowledge/default.asp?p=D3DX+DLL

2.) Go to the file, right click to extract the files. OK it to default. A new folder named D3DXDLLJune will be made and a 'DirectXSETUP' icon is in it. run that and you got your DLL file.

3.) I was having problems with the CDROM after this and had to use Disc 1/Instal to play the game. I still do. This may or may not be the case for you but it should work after get the DLL file.

GL with the game everyone I hear the strategy is all new compared to CIV 3 so it will be fun. I hope to see you all online as opponents or allies :D

I did that and it worked, I can play now, thanks. I don't know why I could not get the file to install from the CD.
