Direct2Drive issue, Civ vanilla -> Warlords

Hi,

I've enjoyed reading the articles here and learning and so on and now I am finally moving up to Warlords.

I downloaded Civ 4 from Direct2Drive and installed it and pretty played it as it is. Now I have downloaded Warlords (again from Direct2Drive) and clicked install.

After loading the installer it promptly tells me that no version of Civ 4 can be detected on my PC. So basically it can't find my game and both are Direct2Drive - sheesh. I have also downloaded the 1.74 patch for Civ 4 and tried that only to be greeted with another error message (Failed to load DLL DSetup).

Any help guys?

Edit: the patch was also obtained from the D2D site, I've seen plenty of issues of retail patches not working and I can assure you its ALL D2D.

I'm getting this now, too... I have the hard copy of Vanilla, and went with D2D for both Warlords & BTS. BTS won't install because it's saying Warlords needs updating; Warlords won't update (abort: failure to patch)... really frustrating. My vanilla is patched up & ready to go. I've no idea what to do now.

If you download Civ4 and Warlords from D2D they have the latest versions on the site. Meaning the Civ4 version you download is 1.74 and Warlords is 2.13. Those are both already patched versions. BTS requires the games both to be 1.74 and 2.13 in order to install. Since you are having a patching problem, redownload those and then when you install BTS it wont require you to patch and should install fine.

Redownload the patches? Ive done that a number of times. Patching vanilla was no problem - patching Warlords is. It won't take a patch from firaxis ("Warlords is not installed"), nor will it take a patch from D2D (it always aborts). When trying to install the D2D patch to warlords, it tells me that there is a newer version of Vanilla, asking if I want to patch that. If I say yes, I then get told that Vanilla is already patched, do I want to continue?

If I say "yes" , it repatches, then goes back to Warlords patching, which then has "Patch failure, aborting" message. If I say "no" then it goes back to the Warlords patcher and again has the "patch failure, aborting" message.

Aarrgghh.

EDIT: I see what you are saying about redowloading now - redowload the entire warlords game from D2D. I'll give that a shot.

Yes, after a new patch comes out on d2d they always completely rebuild the entire game. So that new customers don't have to patch. So you can download the whole entire warlords with the 2.13 patch already included. So that way, you dont have to patch the game, and it should work fine.

Why can't you re-download warlords?

I just tested your case on my machine. Here's what I did and it works fine.

Before doing this, remove everything having to do with CIV, including registry entries.
1. Install Retail Civ4
2. Re-download 2.13 warlords from D2D
3. Run 2.13 warlords from D2D, It will install retail patch 1.74 on to Civ4 retail before trying to install warlords.
4. Then after its patched, warlords will install
5. After warlords is installed install BTS

Mine worked perfect.

I had the exact same problem, I couldn't figure it out.

I uninstalled warlords and put in BTS, It worked.

The leaders from warlords are still there, great wall too...so I'm not sure if I am missing anything from warlords.

I figure I can reinstall it later.

The Warlords I have is 2.13, its vanilla civ that it wants me to patch. I also want to say again I do not have retail civ vanilla, I have D2D civ vanilla.

Civ4 would not ask you to patch if you did what I told you in the first place. Download 1.74 FULL Build and 2.13 FULL Build from d2d and re-install both of those.

Make sure you activate your vanilla Civ4 before attempting to install Civ4 Warlords.

Well I got it a few months ago and all on my IGN network account it doesn't seem to remember my purchase so I had a new account made to download & purchase Warlords. I could happily play civ 4 without an activation key :S

Any idea how I can get it without having to rebuy the whole game?
