I'm having a problem installing conquests. I get an error saying one of the directx files is invaild or causes different issues when attempting to install. The weird thing is that I already have directx 9.0b and it says I don't need to install it. It goes onto the normal installation and makes it to 60% and then I get the error. I've downloaded directx 9.0b again and I still get the same error. Does anyone have any knowledge of this?

EDIT: additional information
When I first tried to install I got an error message so I tried my secons cd drive, its a cd burner. I was able to install but got a missing file when i tried to load the game. I uninstalled (using control panel) and now I can't install in either. The error is casued by mdxredist.msi. This file is located in the directx folder on the cd and also is zipped up in ManagedDX.CAB, which is also in the directx folder. I've tried running the dxsetup.exe from this folder but it will not intiate. Any information would be appreciated

I would go ahead and install direct x again over the current version and then try a complete re-install of the game. Make sure older versions of direct x are gone because it could be sharing a file with an older version in another game. After you install direct x again reboot then before installing civ.It sounds like a file being read wrong somewhere.

Thanks for the reply, but how would I check to make sure older versions of directx are gone? dxdiag says i'm using version 9.0b.

I would re-install it(direct x) despite what the game is telling you because even though it thinks it recognizes the correct files some of those files may be corrupted. It see you have the right version but is that version working correctly. That version it sees may be sharing a bad file or actually a older version that is being read wrong so I would get it out and re-install direct x . Just try to over write to start with and reboot.

How exactly would I do this? I've downloaded a version from the web and installed it and i've also used a version from a pc gamer disk. Neither one does anything, they unzip files but nothing gets installed. I've also tried to take my version down so that the disk can install it, but from everything i've read directx can't be uninstalled

It should prompt you to allow the civ version to install even though it says it already detects it. It did for me and I went ahead and re-installed direct x.
