I'm sorry if this is a common problem, but I did some searching and couldn't find anything like this.

I just got a brand new computer, with Windows 7 64-Bit (the specs should be beyond good enough to play the game). I tried to install Civ IV, but once it gets to installing DirectX9 it stops while it's copying the files it tells me that "A cabinet file necessary for installation cannot be trusted."

Again, sorry if this is a common problem... I just want to get it working on here. I haven't been able to play the game in a year or so.

Yeah, that helped. But unfortunately it ran into another error. This one I'm sure is due to the condition of the disc. :( (data2.cab)

*sighs* Looks like I won't be playing this game again unless I rebuy it... lol. But thanks for the help! That issue was fixed.

Yeah, the disc is a little bit scratched and I already tried that.

I can't say it's not my fault that it got scratched, but I am rather frustrated that it installed fine on my last two computers. One of which I uninstalled it (the computer couldn't play games anymore) and the other just died. D:

So I've been cheated out of playing the game due to computer failures... :(

But thanks for the help anyways.

If you can read the discs on the other PC you could try copying the contents off the disc on that one, transfer over to the hard drive on your current PC and then try installing from there. A bit of a performance but may be worth a go. If it doesn't work, or you can't be bothered then at least Civ 4 is pretty cheap now and you should be able to pick up a copy of complete for not very much.

The only other (working) computers in the house are my parents. I don't think they'd want me trying to install it on their computers. My dad's is slow, and my mom is her's exclusively that she uses for work so that's all kind of out of the question.

It is pretty cheap, so I'll probably go buy it again with my Christmas/Birthday money. They've actually got bundles with expansion packs for cheaper than I originally paid for Civ IV by itself, so I'll be getting the expansion packs as well. =)
