I'm new here, so a quick history: I played and loved Civ 1 and 2, was extremely addicted to both back in the day...
I missed out on Civ 3, wasn't really into playing games much at the time I saw it come out.
I was actually going to buy Civ 4 around the time Warlords came out, but then I saw Chronicles on Amazon coming out in the future. Chronicles was billed as the "complete" civilization, with expansion packs, so I waited. I pre-ordered it when that option was available, and got it in the mail a couple weeks ago.
Civ 4 is awesome (though you all here probably know that already!)
But... Despite being described on Amazon as a "complete anthology" there is no Warlords- a product that was available before Chronicles was announced. So I am disappointed- not that I will have to buy Warlords, the $25 is not (much of) a big deal. I was more thrilled about having ONE box that held everything. As I get older I don't like clutter and tons of stuff piled up all over the place like when I was a teenager. Having all the Civilization games in one box on my shelf was the reason I waited all this time.
Though I must say- I've been playing the Fall From Heaven mod the last few days, pretty impressive for a free upgrade :D Almost makes up for my disappointment!

Well, they could have included it, but then they would need to price it higher to something like $85 - $90. If the price is too high, some people (especially civers who already have most of the games) may not buy it, even if the package is more complete.

If I am going to buy it separately I will have to pay the extra anyhow!

I just expected one box set with all the games. Sure I should have read the details more carefully, but the first line said it was a complete set, so it seems reasonable to assume Warlords was in there.

I'm not upset with the game at all, it is awesome :D

I'm just irritated about I will soon have one "complete" box plus another item on my shelf...

I've been tempted to get Chronicles in particular for Civ I and Civ II, however I've already got Civ III, PTW, Conquests, and CIV IV. I'm not quite sure it's worth the relatively high price tag for the earlier Civ's.... but at the same time...... it would complete things..... plus poster Tech Trees for each?! hard to pass up.......

In the end I'll probobly get it if and when the price goes down...

I got it today - am really happy with it - I'm glad to play Civ 1 and 2 that now can run in windowed mode which is main thing for me.

I know about Warlords that is not included but surely this chronicles package is brilliant.

Just tried Civ2 - I have to admit that the graphics are terrible, I think it is cos of Test of Time expansion - Is there a way to play original Civ2 with original graphics?

UPDATE: Ah, I did not see Civ2 Multiplayer Gold - That's what I was looking for - Better graphics than Test of time :)

They said all along that CivChronicles would NOT include Warlords, being too new.

I never buy any repacked compendium sets because they are really only a clever marketing ploy for these companies to turn basically no cash value, old material into fresh capital. They will never include something that is new and has a level of demand.

It is part of an economic model known as The Long Tail. Once you understand the theory and how companies use it to market their dusty old products you will recognize it and won't fall for it again.

Who cares - It was hard to find Civ1 and Civ2 these days. Don't mention Bitorrent malarkey - I am not an illegal player. I'm really glad to play stable Civ1 and Civ2 again.

I am guessing you care since you took time and effort to post.

what's the card game like?

No idea - Haven't tried it yet - It needs two or more players to play - Don't think my friends and family are interested in Civ series, I'm the only one who are.

A bit of a detour here - Has anyone heard of plans to package Civ4 together with Warlords in coming months?

I don't know any plans, but I can pretty much garentee they will. Question is when.
