Please clarify:
I had thought that disbanding units simply meant you loose them if you don't think they are worth much any more (thus saving the 1GP per turn in maintenance). But I've been reading some other posts and I'm starting to gather that you get something (Gold?) from disbanding units?

Is there some benifit to disbanding units?

If you disband a unit in a city a portion of the cost in shields is added to the current item production.

No. Wonders cannot be rushed in any way. You could rush a university or factory or other improvement though.

Can you still rush a city improvement up to 100 shields and then turn it over to a Wonder, effectively mini-rushing a wonder? Or is that old patch tactics?

I am not sure about the details for wonders, but you can use disbanding surplus units to get those 1 or 2 shields to make a rushbuilding a lot cheaper. It is also possible to switch from a general city improvement to a wonder under a certain number of shields (could be 100) and I remember having had some issues with rushbuilding an improvement, then switching to a wonder.

Hmmm, lots of guessing.

i usualy disband caravel and galleon on new and far away city( ressource needed) to make rush built cost much less for temple and harbor, so i use my wooden boat to make temple and habor.

If you do any rushing at all, even disbanding units at the city or clearing a forest, you will not be able to build wonders at that city until the production box is emptied.

[EDIT] Provided you haven't done any rushing, you can use accumulated production to switch over to building a wonder. This is a good strategy to get a head start in a wonder building race.

Essetnailly this means that you can only use the Palace, FP and other Small Wonders to "save" meaningfull amounts of production for Wonders.

You get a brief pop up message stating that you get X shields per unit when it is disbanded. I think it's 10% of the shield cost, e.g., a spearman at 20 shields when disbanded adds 2 shields to a city's production. It can be worth doing if you are in a republic or democracy to cut dwon on the 1 GP per turn maintenance.

BUT any rushing, deforestation, or unit disbanding does not add to a city building a wonder or something else that can not be rushed without a leader.
