Disc 2 CD error during initial installation

I just bought Civilization 3 today, and have been trying to install it for 2 hours.

If this already posted, I apologize....but I scanned many topics and saw nothing similar.

When I install, it works fine....until it says to insert Disc 2 and click ok. When I put Disc 2 in, it sits idle for some time, then says....Insert Disc 2.

The CD is in perfect condition from what I can see, and it just will NOT read the disc and it's driving me nuts. I loved Civilization 2 and want nothing more than to play this tonight.

Edit: Forgot system specs
1.2 GHZ AMD Athalon processor, running XP Pro. A 32x CD-RW drive, 256 MB of ram and 15 gigs of Hard Drive.

ARGH! Now after trying the MSCONFIG startup things I've seen in this forum, the first disc won't even read! How can there be this many problems with one game?

And now......it works on a much older, crappier computer.......my head is gonna explode.
Any help would be appreciated :)

I actually had this issue with Civ3 Gold.

What I did was use ISOBuster to make a cd-image of the disc. Then I just mounted that to install.

Oddly enough, the problem seemed to fix itself after a while. Now it fully installs with no issues. Of course, now I have a new problem that I am currently searching the boards to fix, but that is another issue.

I am now on my second copy of C3C and it still doesn't install. I've tried two computers and 2 cdrw's and 1 dvd rw drive. nothing works. Gundato, I'm assuming you are using linux since you mounted the image? Does anyone have a solution to this? All of our disk 2s can't be dirty
