Discussion: Aztec War Plans

I have come up with an attack plan that would combine both cities in a coordinated strike. This dual assault would take place 6 moves from now. At that time we would have 4 Swordsman and four Archers in the hills NE of the Aztec Capital. We would also have 3 Swordsmen and one Archer North of Tlaxcala. The trek through Aztec territory towards their Capital would draw their forces in that direction. We would then also move towards Tlaxcala, splitting their forces, hopefully. The Map below is color-coded, and shows the moves of the Swordsmn and Archers to the point of attack. Each color represents one turn and the move that would be made in that turn by a unit. Both stacks would attack on the 6th turn. Any warriors produced should probably be sent to protect the new settler, until we get the road built to connect Morgana to the rest of the Nation.

Great job Cyc. I'm certain that by following your plans, we shall strike a crippling blow to the Aztecs before they can even say counter-strike.

I would like to add a few additional actions that I feel are necessary to the success of our upcoming war:
  • I would like to urgently request that Bavaria return to producing warriors. We should continue building our military until we have the war well in hand.
  • We need to get the workers over to the forest tile west of Morgana to link up the rest of our nation to the iron in those hills. If one of them left immediately, he could complete the task in eight turns (five turns, if both left). Coincidentally, we have enough gold to upgrade another four warriors, one of which is already on his way to Morgana. It will only take Bavaria six turns to build the remaining three warriors!
  • We should also lobby for the strategic placement of our next city (which will be founded by the settler which will be produced in Valhalla next turn). I feel that the location S-SW of the nearby Spices (shown on the attached map as "A") offers the best strategic advantage for our upcoming conflict with the Aztecs. It not only adds another segment to our road south, it would also be able to take advantage of the increased production from the forest and later on, the increased growth from the cattle as well.

Cyc's plan has my complete confidence and support. I would like to add that I believe we should be thinking in terms of declaring the war the turn before we enter Aztec territory. This will make sure we do not take a rep hit for breaking our current peace treaty.

I like your first two points 40j. I still think the tile between the game and the cattle (yes, I realize I mistook the cattle for horses in the other thread - no wonder they're moving so slow...) would be a better spot. Your "A" location would be easier to defend, I think, but the other would get quicker production and growth. Oh, and if we punch out an extra warrior because we didn't get the road installed in time, I don't think that's a big issue, as we'll need a little extra security, no matter how we decide to protect the new settler from Valhalla.

@Elektikos - I agree. That would be sometime during turn #2, would it not?

Yes, turn #2 would be the time to make the declaration.

Cyc's plan also has my full confidence and support. Strangly simmiler to my first plan. Dividing the army into two, with one team stronger for attacking heavely defended cities, and attacking two cities. The Capital Assault force should be stronger and attack and capture the capital. While the Second team goes to attack Talxcala and hopefully Capture the citiy intact.

I got one thing to add.

The Aztec tends to build Jaquar warriors rather than spearmen. I propose getting an embasy to see whether they have iron before we declare war.

If the do not iron and no swordsmen, we can expect JW defenders. This means we need less swordsmen per city and can take more cities with the first strke.

I agree on the bulilding an embasy to the Aztecs. From there we can "Persuade" Monty to let us investigate any city and trade maps of his territory.

Great job, Cyc! I fully support this plan of motion for the units. Except, I would be more in favor of declaring war on the 6th turn (initial attack). That's just me...

It would cost 37g for an embassy with the Aztecs. That's one less warrior upgrade. I doubt the Aztecs have iron. It does not show up on the trade screen for them.

I like Cyc's plan though I would declare war immediately and take the Aztec capital on the 4th turn with the 4 archers and 2 swordsmen. On the same turn i'd have 3 swords and an archer taking Tlaxclala. :king:

Let us declare prior to moving forces into Aztec territory. It is too early in the game to commit what would be treated as a ROP rape by our AI opponents.

The outcome will be the same, we have assembled overwhelming force.

You can also tell by looking at the diplomacy screen. I checked, and the Aztecs have no iron connected. (if they had iron, it would show under the resources).

I agree with Cyc's plan as well, with the declaration of war before entering Aztec territory.

We have an advantage due to the Aztec culture. Even though Tlaxcala is only a size 1 city it will not be autorazed as it has intrinsic culture.

The only thing to be careful of is ensuring that any units we have injured stay protected. If we allow a Jag Warrior to pick off a cripple, we will give them a golden age....all of that is relatively moot once the capital is taken.

Once we have compleated Cyc's Proposed plan. I beleve we should press on capturing the other cities by sending one group to the west and the other group to the east.
Since there is only one city west of the capital, I beleve that the smaller group should go there while the rest heads out capturing the cities to the east of the capital.
