Discussion: Aztec War Plans

Phase I
Here is Phase 1 of my plan to invade the Aztecs. Using Cyc's suggestion. I have decided to send our strongest army to the capital. While the second group heads to Tacxcala.

Phase 1

Phase II
Phase II of the plan would involve Fortifying one of our strongest defenders in the city. Once whe have garrison our troops there, The group in Taxcala shall move to City #1 and the other heads to City #3, in 40j's map

Phase III
Phase III starts once we have fortified City #1 and #3 and grouping our army to City #4 to capture it.

Looks like an excellent plan.

This is the spot where I woud post a recommendation on how it could be changed. However, considering the fact I think it's perfect, I'll keep quiet. Happy warmongering :D :die:

I hope we capture some workers in our initial assault, b/c I don't think there are any roads connecting city #2 (aka Tlaxcala) to the rest of the Aztec empire. As it stands, it would take a virtual eternity (especially at our current t/c pace ;)) to move from city #2 to city #1.

Also, keep in mind that a river borders city #1 on the N, NE, E, SE, and S sides, so our troops should attempt to cross the river before making their final assault on the city.

I shall make a note of that 40J ;). since crossing rivers to attack adds a bonus to the defenders. So we should nove the attack force heading to City #1 on its Southwestern side to counter the "River Crossing Defense" Bonus.

I would be more inclined, provided it could be reached in the same amount of time, to amass the troops to the NW of city #1 so they would enjoy the defensive bonus of the forest in the event of an Aztec preemptive strike from within that city.

Good Map, Good Plan. Question: should any of our newly created Swordsmen be sent to the SE or SW as opposed to straight South? Not the ones that are already made or upgraded, but the ones that will be done during the next t/c.

If there are no more long debates like the last turn chat :). Then the war will start in this Turn Chat :D.

Cyc: any new swordsmen that are built after the War has started will patrol our borders and keep the Jag Warriors in check ;).

kill! kill! kill!

Funnily enough I was just watching Full Metal Jacket this evening...

Suffice to say I believe the Aztecs are about to find themselves "in a world of sh*t"

On the battlefield (wednesday the 23rd)

Plexus: "Freedom!" (with all important roll of tounge)
Warrior: "Sir, we are free..."
Plexus: "Very well then... CHOCOLATE!"

Thats right SaAM :). We will get the jags they run away .

It looks like the war will be a long haul. Since the Aztecs are becoming Smarter and we dont wan io risk having another Civ into this war. Our mighty Military Machine has ran into an Aztec Speed bump. We had lost 2 archers in the process of trying to capture the capital, The archer and the Swordsmen have been fortifyed on the mountan untill reenforcements arrive. We have captured one city though :D

I suggest that our plan of attack from this point should be to concentrate our forces on Tenochtitlan, then sweep round and take the cities in the eastern half of the Aztec empire. We can leave a couple of swords to deal with any counter attacks from the west.

I wasn't at the t/c due to RL obligations, and I haven't read the chat log so I don't know how the fight at the Capitol went (ie. how many units were lost on each side, etc.), but by looking at the current situation, I think we're better off shifting our immediate focus towards the east.

The eastern cities will likely be less defended than the capitol, yet they possess the riches of the empire (incense and horses). I think we should immediately drive to the South and East and take those two cities.

In doing so, we will effectively eliminate the Aztec threat and shore up our position near the "land bridge" to the east. Also, by capturing those "lesser" cities, we can likely force Monty into a lopsided peace treaty which we can hopefully use to recover some lost ground in the tech race.

If successful, the Aztecs will likely have two remaining cities, we would have eight (including the settler currently being built in Valhalla) with access to two luxuries, iron and horses and a strong position near the land bridge. I would then recommend rushing some cultural improvements (probably libraries as they will be cheaper to build and will help our science rate) and engaging Monty in a cultural war for a brief time while we build up our infrastructure and plug in the gaps with new cities.

I see your reasoning FortyJ, but I think we'll do better against the Aztecs if we deprive them of their currently rather nicely placed capital. It should serve to take the edge off their golden age, and will make them much more likely to cave in to all demands at the negotiating table.
