Our war with the Aztecs is not over but we can see the light at the end of the tunnell. It is time now to consider our next step. Do we expand east into America and secure the Landbridge? Do we strike west into Japan before they can build samurai?

Please post your comments! :king:

when going to japan we could end up with them having sumarai in the middle of the war against us... also, i think america could be a bigger problem later on.
i would vote for amerika and securing the landbringe...

Excellent thread topic, Donsig. I believe that conquering the Japanese would be our best bet. We can do this while still expanding to the East. Although the Japan Campaign will require some extensive road building, it may have the benefit of closing our back door.

I think we need a better world map to best determiine our next course of action.

If we are on a peninsula with Japan and Azteca, then Cyc is definitely correct. Bring war to the Japanese before they bring it to us.

On the other hand, we are already at the front lines with America. We can more easily reduce their military capabilities first while we expand through settlers towards the Japanese.

Of course, we should also establish embassies with these nations before too much longer to determine who can truly be our friend/ally in the next campaign, if needed.

I agree with FortyJ.

While this is a good topic to begin discussing now, we simply don't know enough about the Japanese world, and our continent to be certain what our best next step is.

As of now, I am inclined to believe that the Japanese will get their UU in the middle of a war with us, and that unit is pretty powerful. Further, they would undoubtedly kick in their GA during such a conflict, and we would be faced with a dangerous adversary.

Unless it is clear that the Japanese will be coming for us, before we go for them, I feel that they will be a better opponent in later times.

i think that if anyone we should cripple america now before we get to far into the game before their industrial trait kicks in but i really think that we need to wait recuparate and expand and improve the land we have just captured

Since we are probably going to be the only civ on our side of the continent when the Japanese get their samuari, they will almost definately attack. We need to eliminate them immediately after the Aztecs as quickly as possible, and then secure the land bridge to the east, by force if necessary. The Americans are already encroaching on our land, and will need to be stopped.

Then perhaps it is time for us to buys some maps. You don't subscribe to Die Fanatischen Zeiten do you FortyJ?

America needs to be dealt with swiftly, if we plan on going to war, it is the civ to declare war on. I would be uncomfortable if Japan were to go to war against us.

I'm not sure what that is, but if my german's up to snuff, I imagine it's a periodical of sorts. How do I get my copy?

Also, I think we're probably going to get some nice new map data from Azteca really soon. :)

DFZ is a periodical. 8 issues for 125g in the RPG. but you have to be able to get private messages. BTW, we need a land office manager in the RPG. Care to apply? :)

The latest issue of DFZ listed the cost of buying territory maps from the other civs. I think we should pick up a few. I also posted the territory map costs and the cost of embassies in the Foreign Ministry thread.

I'm not sure how the AI trades so I don't know if we should expect a nice world map from the Aztecs showing many civs or if we'll only get a map of what's left of Azteca. Anyone know what we should expect? :king:

Regrettably, I am not active in the RPG and therefore likely do not have any income with which to pay your subscription rates. 'Tis a shame as it sounds like you've got some good things to say. :(

I have quite a few subscribers who aren't active in the RPG. All you have to do is register and subscribe. Two posts and the journal is yours. :)

So, should we buys a map or two or wait and see what Monty has? The American map is only 21g I think.

I think that advertising is off topic. ;)

Anyway, I think we should go for America next (another Ameri! :)), and build cities towards theirs.

Thanks Donsig, for raising the issue of the "next war" for early discussion. It is excellent, from the point of view of long-term planning, to get debate underway. Even though the end of the Aztec war may yet be some considerable time away, we should all definately try to think about this issue very carefully.

Firstly, there is a poll about future directions (war path / peace path) current. Last time I looked it was fairly close, but with the war path showing a promising lead. This could all change however, so the outcome of this poll will of course determine whether there will even be a "next war" in forseeable future, or at least one which we start.

Secondly, we have as yet very scant information/intelligence on either (or indeed any) of our possible rivals and/or targets. We clearly need to significantly improve our intelligence. We should probably start with maps. Can someone post up our latest and best maps into this thread to aid the discussion? By the same token, I wonder if the FA could provide us with a comparative summary, here, of its relevant intelligence on our competitors (eg. techs, attitude, army size comparisons etc.) We probably need some embassies to help with this information. In other words, lets make this discussion an informed discussion - at the moment we are all dealing in bits and pieces, with facts mixed with opinions. Lets make intelligence a priority, and then use it as our weapon.

First, I apologize for contributing to the off-topic discussion concerning Donsig's publication. I will continue to discuss it with him in the chat room or in the appropriate thread.

Second, I think that we can currently extort all of Monty's research for peace, but he won't give us his world map without a fight (literally). This implies that his map has value, and I think we should press on until we get it.

Our maps (both current and archived) can be found in the Cartographic Front Office.

i think discussing another war is premature. We should be focusing our efforts to the homefront instead. Besides we should finish this war before discussing another one

I disagree, Fionn. We are about to be squeezed by our neighbors. The way I see the nation heading is totally backwards. We shouldn't be expanding to the west and picking a fight with the Yanks.

The Japanese border is now touching Tlatelolco in the SW. There are furs, cattle, wheat, and most importantly, a river. Japan is annoyed and aggressive.

We can expand peacefully to the East and SE with our new cities. They will flourish on the coast there. We need to build in that direction.

After we subdue the Aztecs, we need to make a hard right and follow the river NW, taking what we need and want. This means more military units, more Settlers, and more Workers. We need to build a road out of Tlaxcala in a Westernly direction towards the Japanese. We need to build cities along the river out of Azteca (acually the river originates in Japan), and follow the river to the fertile Japanese territory.

We don't really have time to take a breather. We just regroup and go. Expand to the SE, fight up river, then expand in that direction.
