My disk drive stop reading disks after I attempted to install the driver for a video tuner. I am using a Gateway GT4022. I have had a long series of problems with it. I installed new sound and video cards, I have the drivers for them on CDs, the sound also quit. What should I do, can I fix my disk drive without taking my computer to the GeekSquad?

Whats type of disk drive? Floppy, CD/DVD, Hard Drive, something else?

Do you need to get the drivers from the CD for the new sound/ video card? If yes, just download them, as if the CDs are the ones that came w/ the cards, then the drivers are probably out-of-date.

When did you buy it- is it still under warranty?

There are four possible optical drives your system has. Do you know which one?
Optical Drives
5503893R - Lite-On 16X Double-Layer Multi-Format DVD/R/RW/CD-R/W Drive
5503894R - Toshiba 16X Double-Layer Multi-Format DVD/R/RW/CD-R/W Drive
5508746R - HLDS Double Layer Multi-Format DVD Writer DVD/R/RW/CD-R/RW Drive
5508827R - Philips 16X Double-Layer Multi-Format DVD Writer Drive

You have 3 options: (in order of how much I'd recommend them)

1. DL the drivers for now, and worry about the drive later.\
2. Buy a new drive.
3. Try to get a new one under warranty. [sarcasm](Good luck!)[/sarcasm]
