I'm having a problem with my Civ III Complete. For some reason my flat 26-inch lcd Westinhouse monitor wouldn't display the game properly. It would only show the bottom right corner of the actual game on the upper left corner of the screen (does this make sense?) meaning it would cut off some of the game image.

Yet on my old LCD 17 Inch monitor, it would work perfectly fine. Any suggestions to how to fix my problem. I tried to change my settings on my computer and my computer monitor and that didn't even work.

Please help.

Oh no, sorry to hear about your problem.

This isnt an uncommon thing to happen with older games like Civ 3.
But fixing them is slightly different.

As you said you have already looked at your screen, so I may cover old ground here, if I do please forgive me :crazyeye:

1) Press 'auto' or anything that makes your screen work out whats best for your full screen game.
2) Use the size tools on your screen to move the picture up, down and side ways.

If that doesnt work, then, maybe saying somethings you already tried but hey! it would show you did everything right i guess :D

1) Try running the game in Compatibility Mode, windows 98 or ME.

If it doesnt work, try with 'Run in 640x480' ticked, it would make the game look nasty, but a good way to check if it works at all.

If that fails then try the following:

1) Before loading civ, reduce your screen res to 1024x768. Run the game.

Note: Are you using XP, Vista or Windows 7 ?

I have had a look and I cant see any file (in my fast look round) which holds data on screen res for the game.

Let me know how it goes, if all those fail. You may have to try to run the game in Window Mode... Its a shame when old games as good as this start having problems.

Other Games which have had reports of this:

-Theme hospital
-Civ 3
-Civ 2
-The Sims 1

Good Luck!:goodjob:

Simple fix for Wide-Screen monitors:

Go into your conquests folder and find a file called "Conquests.ini"

Add the following line (anywhere, it don't matter):

KeepRes = 1

That will cause the game to use your current resolution, regardless of what it is (really nice for AoI, where that added viewing space on either side of the usual map gives you a better idea of what's going on in the big picture).
