While i see why people are annoyed by the zero day DLC, in reality there is nothing against thinking that user mods can be better than it. What better answer than to make a mod of Babylon which is of greater quality than the official one?

That would be... pretty difficult. The hardest part would be making the leaderhead. Making a Civ5 quality leaderhead (with animations) would be an extremely daunting task. As it is, I'd say fewer than maybe 10 people are able to produce Civ4 leaderheads that aren't obvious copies of a current leaderhead.

10 people are still quite a lot, in that we have some choices :)

And i agree that the LH is the most difficult, since it is effectively a very detailed unit. But in Civ3, for example, all of the unit makers produce very detailed units all the time, so it is not some skill that is mythical by any means :)

Buildings and other gfx- especially static, ie non zoomed in/out- are easy to make though, and Firaxis never really showed that its artists have real talent in gfx in my opinnion.

Yeah. The buildings and units wouldn't really be an issue. Even the music you could just pull from somewhere else... the leader though... I would think it would be about four times harder than making a Civ4 leader. Not only is the background interactable, but the leaders are very animated. So it would basically be a matter of producing the leader, an animation for the leader, a background, and a background for the leader. So it would probably take a team of the best graphics people here. Impossible? Perhaps not. Extremely difficult and improbable? Yes. So much so that if somebody were to dedicate that much time to a leader, I'd prefer it being on a leader who would never be in the game, like Hitler (who I do believe should be in the game [moreso than many other leaders], and think he's not only because of the German market), rather than one that has already been made through DLC.

first of all its harder, second... WHY ?
i mean why i should work FOR FREE while others have worked for money to do soemthing less good (assuming i m able to do something better ofc) ?

Why? Well that depends on the creator. Most people who make stuff for civ seem to just want to
a) provide things for the community
b) feel they create something wanted
c) feel joy from creating in the first place :)

I didnt suggest a contest with firaxis, merely noted that it isnt impossible for the community to produce something better. Some of the civ4 mods should be better than the original game (i dont won/play civ4, but i heard so).
