This is an old question I have seen it in reddit: antiquity site will block the district construction and is annoying.About one month ago I remember the builder finally have the ability to remove antiquity site and it yielded gold in my previous game. However, the ability seems be gone now. I am not sure this is the official change or some mod make it. May I confirm this change?

It was probably a mod.

I wish. If you aren't playing a culture game, you should have the option to destroy antiquity sites. If you are warmongering, you could have dozens of these things, it's impractical to build that many archaeological museums.

The "Harvest all resources" mod lets you harvest antiquity sites for culture.

Tempted to try that out, they do have a tendency to pop in the worst of places. But I generally don't mind building archeological museums, though that is mostly a left over from the time they were much, much easier to theme than art museums. Love getting industrial artifacts from civs I wiped out in the classical era...

Those are things like the Ford Model-T from your own civ that you would put in the Smithsonian. :)

One thought I had is to grant culture/science yields and appeal boosts to antiquity sites, as a reason to keep them around if you don’t want to dig up artifacts. There are so many sites like this across the world that attract tourism that it seems odd that the designers did not incorporate it into the existing game mechanics already.

As for “harvesting” artifacts, it is a disincentive to produce archaeologists and the museums, but on the flip side, could be a way to include the looting and destruction of sensitive ruins we see IRL (poor Palmyra and Bamyan Buddhas).

I like the idea that antiquity site should give culture, not every relic site should be put in museum. Harvest them may be not a good in-game idea but sometimes was realistic. Knights of St John of Rhodes loot the stone of Mausoleum at Halicarnassus to build fortress. I agree rooting maybe a better mechanism. All I want is that antiquity sites do not block improvements and dsitricts. It's not fun and realistic at all that some antiquity site will block infrastructure.
