Do cities ever revolt from unhappiness?

Due to unhappiness.....All I see in the game manual is that city growth and military readiness is diminished, but I'm wondering if your cities ever actually revolt.

I saw this XML code and it makes me think it's possible:

<Row Name="REVOLT_COUNTER_POSSIBLE">
<Value>3</Value>
</Row>
<Row Name="REVOLT_NUM_BASE">
<Value>100</Value>
</Row>
<Row Name="REVOLT_NUM_CITY_COUNT">
<Value>20</Value>

Yes, at -20 for 5+ turns I believe. It can be nasty in late game if you take someone over, get that level of sadness from it, then you get a revolt with 5 mechanized infantry barbs surrounding your capital. Something to avoid at all costs.

Awesome. Good info to know. I needed to know because I'm making a Roman Empire scenario mod where each Slave produces unhappiness, and I wanted for there to be revolts if there's too much slavery. Spartacus Revolts ftw.

I have also had revolts, and I think in less than 5 turns with more than -10 hapines... I got anti-tank units though, guess I was kind of lucky

I've had tanks!!! So it would seem like random (land based) units... I've also had between 2 and 5 units appearing, but not usually at your capital. Normally it's at the city with the highest unhappiness count.

I'm certainly not sure, but I think it's 3 turns at -20 or over. Then wait 5 turns before more are spawned.

This can be a real pain if you have just taken over a couple of large cities quickly... I've had some really high unhappiness levels due to cities costing in the high twenties or early thirties in unhappiness EACH. One is manageable, but 2 in quick succession can really hurt, unless they have good luxury products you don't already own. Even if you raze them, a 28 population city takes 14 turns to die, and at, say, 28 unhappiness, you wanna re-bomb it flat!

In my case it was just around my capitol city :)

I've seen it in earlier eras as well. I don't remember at what point it was, but I've made sure not to get below 3 or 4 unhappiness since then.

Rebel units spawn at 20+ unhappiness randomly... I don't know if cities rebel, ever...

This is actually very cool and fits in perfectly in the Roman Empire scenario mod I'm working on, to replicate the Spartacus revolts. My only problem is a player can delete a slave (worker), so that makes it too easy for the player to prevent a revolt.

I wonder if I can remove the "delete" worker button. That would be awesome.

there are other relatively easy ways to keep unhappiness from getting out of control. easiest is to declare peace, then sell/gift a few cities away (typically with an eye towards reconquering them once your unhappiness is under control of course...). I think that this was implemented expressly to prevent players from completely ignoring happiness during Army of the Apocalypse (tm) horse rushes during late 2010.
