Do edited rules work only in my computer?

Let's say I want to play a game with edited rules. Then I want to pass it along to somebody (like in a succession game). Questions: If the person has the scenario file (with the edited rules) in his computer, will the game be loaded with the edited rules. Or am I the only one that can play the saved game by my rules without having to replace my original bic file?

A saved file is a saved file. Like any other transfer of files from one computer to the next all you have to do is ...transfer the file (save it first). When your friend is ready to see your game he will have to choose the option to load the game. Make sure he stores the transferred file into the saved game folder for your Infrogrames Folder on your C: Drive.

I don't think you understood my question. Either that, or I didn't understand your answer. Let me rephrase it.

I doubled all combat experience hitpoints. An elite unit has now 10 hitpoints instead of 5. I started my game under those rules, and I will now pass it along to somebody else.

Can you say that if he loads the game in his computer, the doubled hitpoints rule will be valid?

Does the other person need to have the scenario file with the changed rules in his computer to make things work?

Is this even possible?

If you have a answer to those questions, please reply. If I don't get an answer till 10 am, I'll run a test in this thread. Anyone wants to help me? Right now i'm out to bed. See ya later.

no your rules will not transfer. You will have to give a copy of your settings file. They will all be normal in his game.

Q: Does the other person need to have the scenario file with the changed rules in his computer to make things work?

A: Yes, when your buddy is starting a game he will have to choose to load scenario, and choose the one you created with your edited rules. He'll get a popup stating that the "rules for this game have been changed do you want to customize this world..."

I hope this helped

I understand what you guys are saying, but there's still one question to what I didn't get an answer.
You will have to give a copy of your settings file.
Does that mean I have to give the scenario file? And is that enough? That's all I want to know.

To make things clear I'm running a test, and I'll need assistance from anyone who is kind enough to help me. First, I have to say that I have the patch installed, so if you don't, I believe you won't be able to load the saved game.

Anyway, I'm attaching a saved game (german.sav) and a scenario file (teste.bic) in the end of this post. All you have to do is download it, put the .bic file in your scenario folder and the .sav file in your saves folder, and finally load the game.

Does the edited rules apply in your computer? This will be easy to check because I doubled all hitpoints and all units must have a wider (larger) hitpoint bar.

Thanks in advance. :goodjob:

As long as you send the edited bic file along with the saved game it'll be fine. All the rules changes you made are contained in the bic.

you have to give him your scenario and you version of the civmod.bic otherwise the normal rules or what ever he has will apply not yours.

I'll post this last time (I hope) just to end this once and for all. I finally got to install Civ3 in my second computer, and so I ran the test myself. The conclusion is that Nanook is right. You have to pass your scenario and the saved game to get things working. You do not need to pass along your civmod.bic file.

Summary:
If you create a new set of rules (let's call it myscenario.bic) and start a new game with it (let's call it game.sav), to make it work in another computer, you have to pass those two files (myscenario.bic and game.sav) to the other pc. Remember that the myscenario.bic goes into you "Scenarios" folder, and that game.sav goes into you "Saves" folder.

Thanks to everybody that answered to this thread. :goodjob:
