Do Mods hate me, or just my computer?

Hello everyone,
I am a long time player of civ 4 and I recently bought BTS and installed it. Unfortunately I haven't gotten the mods to work with BTS, they used to work with vanilla. So far here are the solutions that I have tried:
-Uninstall and reinstall
-Uninstall, clear registry and reinstall
-Uninstall, clear registry, manually delete cache, and manually delete every other folder with the title CIV, then reinstall.

I always install the most up to date patches and the game works when running just BTS or the mods that are already installed with the game (defender, Charlemagne, etc).

I believe that I am loading mods correctly because they show up in the scenarios options on the BTS screen.

However, when I click on the scenario it begins to load, but then an "unexpected" error occurs and the game shuts down.

So, any suggestions? I have spent a few weeks trying to solve this problem, but to no avail. Any help would be appreciated.

Not all mods are BTS compatable. Some require either Warlords or the original Civ4. Do the mods that you are trying to play specify which version of Civ4 they work with? If not then I would assume that they are for the original Civ4.

Hello General,
Thank you for the response. I doubled checked and all the modes I tried should work with BTS. Thanks though,

Percy

Make sure you get the patch to upgrade to BTS 3.17. Most mods will not work with 3.13. (well, make sure also that the specific mods you are trying are for 3.17)

Are you installing them in Program Files, or My Documents Directory? (Should be along the Program Files path, haven't had a mod work in BtS when I placed it in the My Documents path)

Also have you tried a mod that automatically installs, like Fall From Heaven 2, or the Destiny Mod?

also if your using XP or older make sure your putting them in;

C:\Program Files\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Beyond the Sword\Mods

or wherever your local civ4 installation is....

I don't recommend putting it in custom assets in the;

C:\Documents and Settings\HP_Administrator\My Documents\My Games\Beyond the Sword\MODS

directory, unless your using Vista. I think I remember reading something weird about that.

EDIT: oops beat to it

Also are you using a MAC?

Hey all,
Thanks again for all the help. I originally placed the mods in the
C:\Program Files\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Beyond the Sword\Mods
folder, but when that didn't work I also tried putting them in the my documents folder. Neither strategy has worked. I am using a dell with XP. I haven't treid FFH2. I'll give that a shot now.
