Do people take attacks, etc personal in the game?

Yes, I get quite annoyed. Especially since I tend to maintain a small and techonolgically up to date military and the computer always underestimates the 'sleeping giant' industrial factor. So they win a little early until my production gears up and I start whompin' on them. I'll offer them peace from time to time for deals that are much better for them than continued war but they never, ever take them. (I'll offer peace for two cities and they say no. So I capture them that same turn.) Almost inevitably, they become no more.

I get a HUGE rush from having an effective military strategy lay waste to an opponent. Funny, though, once the challenging part is over (the offending civ is nearly crushed) I just walk away and let the other remaining civs nibble up the crumbs.

I take it very personally. This game I was sharing a continent with the Americans, Aztecs, Romans, and Egyptians. At one point or another, they all declared war against me through no overt action of my own. Let's just say that at this point, I own everything but the last 4 Egyptian cities which will fall as soon as I get home from work tomorrow and can get back to the important things.

Take it personally? I still hold a grudge against the French from Civ II!

The other night I noticed my Aztec neighbors had contact with the French. Hmm. Time to abandon all pregame notions of strategy. Build many Immortals. Negotiate right of passage with Aztecs. March through Aztec lands. Find French. Destroy French. March back through Aztec lands. Destroy Aztecs on the way back. Return to peaceful civilization mode.

I've seen the same kind of thing several times. It almost seems like the AI takes it personally sometimes. The last large game I finished three of the civs I obliterated were given many chances to end the fighting, they always either refused to talk or refused to make anything like a reasonable deal. I think this area of the game needs a bit of work.

I think I take this game too seriousely... Always imagining myself as the real ruler of my own little world so I get really piss off when some barb or civ comme to kick my butt or screw my improvement... I would really like to talk to that ***** elizabeth : "Why do you do this? I don't understand ! Did i do something that you didn't like? If yes, I am really sorry... can you just remove your 100 units off my cities so I could continue managing my poor little civ? pl pl plp pleeezzzzz" well, I think u got the idea ...

this is MY people !! Don't mess with them cuz I'll get too emotional !!
