Do spearman really work against tanks???

I was testing the calculator, and if it's a 1 hp Barb tank attacking across a river to a fortified mountain fortressed spearman army with 15 hp, the spearman would win 100.1% of the time. That cracked me up.

Often in the middle of a game it is difficult to be the culture leader at least until you take over someone else's empire...

I've lost a Modern Armour to a spearman once. Of course the MA was down to one HP and the spearman was healthy and it was my first game and I forgot my point

Once, just once, I would like to see a save file where a spear defeats a tank. I mean a save with preseve seed turned on, and normal game situation, not some engineered spear on a mountain in a fortress. The combat calc proves that it is even possible, but it seems like far too many people have experience with this than normal percentages would dictate. Personally, If I have a rival who is still using predominantly spears, They are wiped out long before tanks hit the scene. They're perfect fodder for infantry and cavs before you take on the big boys. I don't know how so many people even have the possibility in their games, never mind see it actually happen. About the only thing I could see is if you found some lost tribe on an island somewhere. Otherwise, you guys need to step up your level if you regularly find spears with your tanks. There's just no way you should be that far ahead of your rivals (discounting poor upgrading by the AI).

I don't remember a spearman defeat a tank in my games, but I had a longbowman destroy a modern armor in my first game.

The most humiliating defeat I had was when an enemy galley sank my carrier fully loaded with stealth bombers.

Represent a tank as a division of 150 tanks, and a unit of spearman as 5000 spearmen, the tanks are out numbered 33:1. imagine 33 men with spears or even pocket knives fortified in a city(hiding in buildings) jumping a tank. it doesnt seem so unlikely they will fail now does it?

I guess it's easier to remember the one time that the spearman defeated your tank than the gazillions times where your tank utterly crushed the spearman under its mighty weight.

I've never lost a healthy tank to a spearman, but a couple of times I've attacked a fortified spearman in a city with a tank that was down to 2 or 3 hp assuming that it was a sure bet. I learned my lesson.

i was just messing around with the combat calculator that Halcyon provided in an earlier post. The level was cheiftan, so the spear got a %400 percent bonus.

I once lost a modern armor (vet) to a spearmen (elite) on a mountain. It was kind of freaky and doesn't make any sense.
