Hi, I've been playing the game (Civ 3) for quite some time now, and just can make those damn specialist work.

In previous versions of Civ, they were really useffull in fine tuning cities; but now all I can do is hire entertainers!

The Entertainers work fine, by the minute I select it, happy faces gets redistributed and troubles are at ease. The problem is, whenever I choose a scientist or a tax colector, there is no movement in science or tax output. Doesn't work neither on calm or civil disordered cities.

I've installed the lastest patch, and is just the same.

Is there some kind of problem with my game/configuration, or is this just a new game concept I'm missing?

Thank in advance for any help! :)

they work you just cant see it in the city screen. go to the domestic advisor and you'll notice the changes

Yeah the tax man adds 1 gold and the scientist 1 beaker. These are also immune to corruption, so in the deadly corruption cities, I usually make almost all specialists since the center square will usually produce a shield and a gold and normally 1 of each is all that isn't corrupted. So I make the rest of the citizens tax men or scientists, yet try to allow enough laborers to cover the food and maybe allow growth so that I can gain extra beakers or gold.

Ranger - is that true?

That could be the end to all my problems. Large corruption cities pumping out science and the others units etc :goodjob:

Yep, I can confirm it does add gold or beakers to the overall Civ total, but doesn't show up on the city screen (which no doubt Firaxis would call a 'feature' rather than a bug I guess!). Would be nice in the next patch to see the extra gold or beakers appear in the city screen as well.

I didn't realise corruption didn't work on the specialists though - thanks for that tip.
