Do you need more orbital coverage?

So far I haven't. Not enough to build something to extend it yet. When I do have combat oriented orbitals I'm usually at war with a neighbor and are therefor close enough that I don't need to extend range. Also I can't put the orbital too close or they will shoot it down. I know I could throw up orbitals over an opponents territory in peace time to block theirs and that would necessitate greater range but it's hard to tell whether it's worth the effort.
So has anyone else found it necessary to increase orbital coverage?

I have. Of course, I play Terran, so I get the Continents thing, but I've also used it on Archipelago. I don't always prioritize war on my nearest neighbor. There are games where my nearest neighbor and I are the best of friends - this is usually when both our Capitals and many cities are land-locked, so we kind of need each other for trading benefits.

I used the orbital extension functions to attack an enemy city on coast far from any of my cities - essentially, I extended my orbital coverage all the way to the other continent. I could've used Arbiters, I suppose, but moving troops across an ocean is a hassle. The "orbital coverage around Firaxite" came in handy a bunch of times, both for attack and for colonization. It's nice to not have to walk your Colonist across the planet.

I don't build them in every city, of course, but in one or two key cities, I build all the stuff. I even use Arrays to extend the range even more.

I often find myself building a launch complex to bust some miasma, to make settling a new city easier or to make way for trade routes. I rarely have much use for extending it farther but I also hate to warmonger.

I was on a terran world where the continents were icebound at the top, splitting the oceans. I needed to move my fleet and hovertanks to the other side of the planet, which would have taken a long time for the tanks and gone the long way 'round for the ships. Launch Complex puts Phasal Teleport just off Elodie's coast, and the fleet and "army" make water-fall next turn.

When I've expanded my 'core' to the corners of my continent, I usually put Complexes at the corners, just in case.

Also, you CAN phasal teleport Aircraft - they stay on their carriers. Much faster than re-basing.
