The DS is outselling the PSP in Japan by a huge margin.

I heard that some of the Japanese actually thought that the PSP was a new camera.

Does the DS let you lissen to music, go on the internet, and watch movies. I DONT THINK SO

Opera is working with Nintendo to create a web browser that utilizes the DS's dual screens and touch screen features.
The GBA Movie Player uses either CF or SD memory cards (which means a theoretically unlimited amount of content in chunks as large as 1GB) to allow users to listen to music, watch movies, view images, read e-books, and even run home-brewed applications, on your Game Boy Advance (original or SP), Game Boy Micro, or Nintendo DS system. You can get the CF version at Lik-Sang for $25.00 US, and I imagine there are plenty of other sites where you can order either version.

...At any rate, the DS is definitely the best choice of platform for any developer looking to create a portable game that would typically rely upon the input devices of a PC. Not only is the touch screen a suitable replacement for the mouse, but it can also be used as a keyboard for text input, and the dual screens would be great for tons of things... Like allowing players to watch and protect their base, while simultaneously launching an offensive, in a realtime strategy game. That, and there's the popular wi-fi play...

...I'll also say that a game similar to Civ, but having more action and/or tactical play, would probably be the best choice for introducing such games to the DS--or, to be more specific, a sequel to Master of Magic. That game's long overdue for a return, and the action-packed tactical battles would be appealing to players who are not as familiar with turn-based strategy titles.

You know, I can't bring myself to see the PSP's other capabilities as a significant advantage.

A PDA is a far, far superior handheld device for internet browsing. Who wants to browse the internet with a d-pad and a few buttons? Entering URLs in a pain. Tabbing through links is a pain. It seems more of a novelty than anything useful.

As far as movies go, why would I spend $20 on a disc that only works in a PSP when I can spend $20 and get a DVD that works in a variety of devices?

As for music, I buy all my music on CD and rip it. There's just too many competing standards and the overall sound quality of the legal music tends to be pretty low (64 kpbs).

I have a PSP. Hooray for Star Wars :Battlefront 2!!!

These are just crap gimics that Sony included because the PSP doesn't have a selling point. Most the games lack any imagination so Sony needed something to help shift units other than flashy graphics.

The DS doesn't need these gimics. It have games that are actually fun to play. Something the PSP is badly lacking in.

Speaking of which, Age of Empires DS isn't half bad. It's a TBS with a heavy combat focus.

Well let's see when I buy my gaming portable, you know what I want to do with it. Play games! I have a computer for the rest.

Seriously, I didn't like paying $300 for a game system that already does what my computer, and iPod do.

booring!! jeez, all the cell phone version ov civ3 is civ1 with like 8 units, I would rather have CIv 2 emulated on the psp than another half baked knock off from some lazy coder. that said, I think those origami (mobile media something or other) divices are the wave of the future, and no need for any thing new here, just unpack yea olde cive 1e 2e or 3e and off you go.

My DS cost $120 and fits in my pocket and plays games for 6 hours without being plugged in.

I was refering to the PSP. I actually like the DS quite a bit more.

The DS is definitely the portable machine I prefer for gaming - by a mile. But the PSP scores with it's movie playing capaility. I use mine often on the daily train commute. You simply rip your normal DVDs to it's memory :)

As a gaming machine, the PSP's games are mostly cut down PS2 ports - pointless. The DS has amazing original games.

hmmm.. I don't even like cellphones.
If I'm not at the PC I'm not gaming or browsing I'm engaging in all the other aspects of life..
BTW for those of you who will say..what do you do when on a train, plane etc. two words. I read, books need no batteries just supply imagination.

Neither of the above, though a palm version would be neat, however unrealstic...

i know there are a couple of versions of sim city for palm; i played one that was good (but it only ran on my m515). i'm sure firaxis could knock up a reasonable civ port for palmOS5 (not of civ4 of course  )

I dont have nethier and plan on getting PSP becouse its mutch better then the DS and EVERYONE KNOWS IT. That would be the coolest thing to have Civ4 on PSP, or DS, something like that would couse a national emergency :)

PSP will die along with sony, their PS3 and Blu-ray.

CIV DS would sell as many copies as there are nintendo DS sold. 21 million DS sold, one sells every 2 seconds.

actually, i can do all of the above with my nintendo DS.

using the PSP to try and play CIV would be an excercise in frustration...

trying to innovate with PSP hardware IS an excercise in frustration... re: PORTS

the psp's graphics aren't enough to win it the battle of the hand helds.... sony's about to relive the same battle in the next gen console wars.

sony's great for inexpensive car stereos. that's IT.

The Nintendo DS is a wonderfull machine. Very nicely designed, nice color, good touching, wonderfull touch screen, double screen, and amazing games. I own Phoenix Wright, New Super Mario Bros and Another Code and the best one is without any doubt the very original lawyer game Phoenix Wright. A lawyer game! Who could have think I was going to play such a game. So yes, my preference goes to the DS for an adaptation of Civ, obviously. I would be curious however of what type of Civ it would be... I'm a nostalgic of Civ2 so as the console could not handle Civ4 or even Civ3 features (cultures and religions in particular), I would hope for a Civ2 adaptation instead of the (crappy?) Civ1 cell phone one.

I have a PSP and a DS Lite, and I have to say that while the PSP is sexier, the DS has the better, more fun games (and a much larger quantity of games in general).

For what I have seen, Sony doesn't have the handheld philosophy applied to its PSP. A handheld should be able to be picked up, played with for a couple of minutes and be put away. A handheld should also be able to play with for a couple of hours without the ability to be charged (beach, on the road). PSP has big loading times and a small battery. Poor choice...

The DS's stylus is the key to success. I think Civ shouldn't be ported, but it should be rebuilt for the handheld.

The simple fact that the DS has SOLD more than the PSP has SHIPPED proves your statement wrong. The PSP is slowly and gradually failing, whilst the DS just keeps gaining ground.

The chances of it being made for the DS are much higher, as there is a higher user base for that system.
