Do you restart if stuck with a poor starting spot?

Do you rerun the world builder?

I only restart when the starting position is really bad, which isn't that often.

When I move up a difficulty I find I have to farm a better start a few times, but as you get used to the level less so. As you tweak your strats to a given level often a poor starting location can just force you out of the tried and tested strat comfort zone.

Even a totally unwinable start can be interesting to try something quick.

That's not how it works. You get +100% production for the resource, +50% for the Industrious trait, +25% for the Forge, for a total of +175%. So you build 2.75 times faster than without any of those, or 36% of the what the build time would be if you had none (I hesitate to call that "normal", becuase usually you don't try to build most wonders unless you have the matching resource).

I appreciate the info on the technical details. :)

However I was stressing that restarting to get that kind of massive bonus stacking seems (at least to me) to be outright cheating. Good grief if that is what he/she wants just open WB and add them. In that way at least your honest that your cheating. Hmmm, honesty and cheating. How ironic. :crazyeye:

Well, many people choose which civilization and leader they want to play, instead of having one assigned at random, and that seems about as much of a "cheat" as regenerating terrain to get something you like, instead of taking something generated at random.

Personally, I'm with you, that taking a random start and playing it is the fun of the game, and I wouldn't usually restart over and over to get something especially good. On the other hand, suppose you've beat a previous difficulty level and you're trying the next higher level for the first time. I can certainly see going for an especially good leader or an especially good start in that first game, just to create a sort of "intermediate" difficulty.

Or you might just feel like playing a particular start terrain, not even one that is necessarily especially good. So I think there are lots of different things that can be reasonable.
