Do You Think Ther Will Be A Civ 4?

Err...does Civ4 have a hidden sexual meaning that I do not know of? Wondering why [deleted] would point to that kind of site...

Sparrowhawk: :nono: Posting sites like that...how dare you! ;)

I agree with Dark Sheer. There should be a few years of wait before the launch of Civ4. Hopefully, by then fresh concepts would have arisen to make Civ4 more than just an upgraded Civ3.

Civ4 will hopefully be a fantastic 3D world. In a planetary form (Globe).

Imagine 64 Base Civs, in the end, 255 Nations :D

I think I would have to put my boot through my monitor if 4or 5 of my cities "saw the light" and became French. This would almost certainly put you out of the game, or at least make it very hard to win/catch up. However......it might be nice to be on the other end of a mass defection.

The will most definitely be a Civ IV. Three years from now at the earliest, four or five years is more likely. It will probably be as different from Civ III as Civ III is from Civ II. It will also be considerably better, hopefully with a genuine Artificial Intelligence, unlike the Stupid Bot that we currently abuse.

The first Civ game I got was Test of Time, and I liked the multi-level map feature for the fantasy (Midgard scenario) game. I would like to see something similar in another version of Civ. Imagine having to go underground to find those buried resources, or being able to locate an offshore oil source.

Oh yeah: a must to have better AI. And a must to have less accidental rep damage. Those are two things I hear a lot in these forums: AI cheats and it's too easy to destroy your rep. I've done that a million times.

Maybe a special thread should be started for Civ4 ideas instead of putting them all here.

@ Me4Peace-
I gotta agree with USMC. The prophet idea *sounds* good in that they have been a big historic force, but ... it seems to me that it would introduce WAY too much randomness in the game at an early, potentially decisive point. Good idea for a SIMULATION of history, perhaps, but as the Spearman over Tanks people love to say, ITS A GAME. It wouldn't be fun if you were to very easily lose (OR WIN) by some single random event. Its why Firaxis removed the concept of Narural diasters from the game in early development. Image its about 2 or 3 Hundred BC, your civ has about a dozen productive cities, you've beaten up good on one neighbor civ that attacked you, and are ready to take down to client state size another neighbor, and suddenly you lose 4 cities to that neighbor, not due to any great effort on their part or error on yours, but simple random chance that they get the Muad'ib at that point. OK for Dune, perhaps, but not Civ!

Back OT: I love CIv3 but that doesn't mean I think its perfect. I want Civ4 to
1) correct the glaring weaknesses of 3. Here is not the place to go into all of them. And some of the "weakness" AREN'T. For example, I don't really LIKE Culture Fliping, but I am glad its in the game! (I DO like having the slider for it!)
2) Be a quantum leap up in many ways, like Three is over Two
3) Have a better AI but keep a way to set hardness levels (by varying the AI's effeciency, NOT by "cheats" or advantages as it is now) ... I assure you if they make the AI to improved, everyone (well, many anyway) will be howling that the game is too hard and no fun.
4) BRING BACK *AND* IMPROVE THE WONDER MOVIES!!!! Wonders are way to much of major events to not have SOME nice cool thing happen to "celebrate" their completion.
5) MORE editor contolable features! Especially of the new stuff.

Civ on!

I don't want to be rude, but i few of you (not all of you) like to turn around the subject. I don't want "do you think there will be a civ4?", to turn into "do you think my boss will catch me at this site?"

Please stay on topic.:goodjob:

I for one would love to see Civ 4 - let's see how PTW works out though.

Surely there will be, someday. If there's money in it, someone will make it. Not sure about the quality though....

I fully see the 3D thing. It'd be cool to witness a Maddenesque-type replay option. Imagine being able to see a detailed 3D vid of your tank getting slaughtered by some old Persian spearman!

Oh there WILL be a civ4. With fewer features than civ3, an additional concept (as culture came with civ3) that is extremely unbalanced (see CF), more buggy code lines than correct ones......

Its almost a given that there will be a Civ IV, considering how well Civ III sold.

But what i would want most........

1) A much more in-depth diplomacy model. Like the other person mentioned, i forget who!, being able to broker deals, pay off a Civ to conduct warfare without you yourself getting involved, unit tradeing (must...have...unit...tradeing) and stuff like that.

2) EVERY TECH SHOULD BE WORTH WHILE. A few techs (especially in the latter stages) seem to be just thrown in to prolong the inevitable. I think every tech should do something good, and possibly, do something bad to balance it out.
For example, Engineering. this enabled you to plant forests, and bridge rivers so it wouldnt cost the extra move. Little features like that to each tech would be great for all of them. Would make the strategic importance of each one much more involved.

3)Each Civ should have added traits. instead of just the two that each individual Civ has now, they should have little perks as well. This would make dealing with them more fun, and also give them all more personality.

4)More resources and luxuries! Everyone can agree on this, just more variety...

5)I LOVE the idea of the world being in the shape of a 3D globe! That would be very cool.

6)A naming system. Theres a random map generator, but wouldnt it be cool if it also randomely generated names for the bays, channels, mountain ranges, etc, that you waged war in? Ive thought about this a lot, it would also serve to give the world personality as well. There could be a hot key button that could turn the names on or off.

Theres just so many things i would like to see added... The people that say no more could be done to improve the system either never liked Civ 3 to begin with or are just to in love with the game to change it ;)

SMAC2, CIV4 in that order. Haven't played SMAC at all since Civ3 has been out.

I just hope they keep the thing TURN-based. No RTS!!!

Hm... am I the only one here who doubts that there ever will be a civ4. A lot of guys are saying "PTW sucks" and "PTW isnt worth the 30 bucks" and combine that with the financial struggle of infogrames, the price cuts of PTW, and Snoopys logo making fun of Fraxis, and im not sure if there ever will be a civ4. :(
I really do want there to be a civ4, though. :)
