Do you use airbase units?

I never do, but the AI seems to use them a lot. Is a fighter better at countering than an AA gun?

I usually forget to build airbases at the start of the industrial age, then regret it later.

I think that fighters are better, since they can be assigned to different areas as needed. The only time I use AA guns is when defending wonders, which can just as easily be done with fighters on patrol
And helicopters are absolutley essential for anti-tank roles.

i build helicopters but rarely planes, a few helicoptors can really make my army the best, the NPCs arent designed to take 40 tanks, 12 armoured cars, 100+ assorted infantry and 20 helicopters and survive .

I build them just to have a little extra boost for AA defense. But I build choppers as a main force.

I always build airbases. When I have them nearby, It isn't long if I attack some other country when I have a city in like, 5 minuetes. Sometimes, those danged AA's don't always seem to shoot

AA guns aren´t so good shooting Stealth bombers.

I make lots of planes because they have a large range
(I like range) and high velocity (I love velocity).

Yessum, I normally have an Airbase in every border city and a couple in the capitol. I build more when Stealth comes into play, 'cause their range is so much better. I use Stealth Bombers (or B52's if I'm at a push) to go ahead of my main strike force and take out Towers and Castles, occasionally factories and Barracks's get the chope too.
Personally, I dont rate AA guns at all. Mainly because I have never seen them take down a Stealth Bomber, which pretty much means their lifespan is from Industrial->Modern/Early Info. ages. Buy into Biplanes, Fighters, Jet Fighters and the Super Dooper advanced model and you can take out anything you can click on.

On a completely different note...It really pisses me off when you do a bomber run, take out your targets and hang arround blowing enough stuff up before your planes run out of fuel. Then you go back to your army and start guiding them in, only to be bombed by your bombers doing a second trip. Damn them.

I don't see how you can survive without them. Fighters devastate ground units. I never send in my airforce when the enemy has AA. I'll rush in some ground forces to knock out the AA first.

Wouldn't it carry less loses if you held the infantry back and used a Tomahawk or 2 to blast away the AA and Towers, then send in the infantry with a Bomber Combo?

I really can't see someone without at least 5 airbases in their capitol. They are essential defensive, as well as offensive which is how I use them, structures. If the enemy is coming, scramble. If you have an enemy far away, use bombers, closer fighters. I also use alot of AA because the AI on my games uses alot of spys,and special forces. The airforce is almost always my main army, send them in (after blowing up their base with a couple missles ), and then send in your actual army and finish the other guy off. And choppers are not very good, they are very good against tanks, but they have a tough time taking on anything else, and AA can take them out very easily.

That would be effective. But, the life of a Tomahawk is extremely short compared to fighters and bombers. ???

I always Use Air Units!, they can give an easy city take over if used with the fight units lets say a few special forces and 50 some infantry. I like sending 10 bombs from one city and 10 fighters from another one with spacial forces scrambling the AA guns let the fighters trash some of there army then send of infantry. Over all i wouldn't win most times if it weren't from air units.

I build them to keep the enemies air force from harassing my buildings. Only my border cities though.
