Well, those juicy Relics are tempting …but face it, their escorts already outnumber us. But I’ll shadow...
And man, we really need Workers; now, if we get a couple of Swords, and the Burgundian Settlers come, and we can reach the Relics....and Burgundy will research HBR unlike Bulgars

Ok, stop dreaming, and hit enter.
Szeged (Warrior) -> Temple, Debrecen (Warrior) -> Warrior
Turn 1: 902AD
Will return our slow explorers home to MP duty. Can lower Lux to 0%. I’d like to meet France soon, but I guess they’ll come travelling by. One thing that disturbs me is everyone annoyed with us – must be because we’re no Monarchy.

Turn 2: 885AD
Zzzz...
IBT:
Franks show up.
Belgorod (Warrior) -> Granary

Turn 3: 888AD
Meet France; have nothing, and are annoyed.
IBT:
Debrecen (Warrior) -> Settler, Kassa (Warrior) -> Worker

Turn 4: 891AD
I don’t get it, where’s the Burgundian Relic Carrier? Had a Horse next to him, now only ‘black’ Swords left  .
German Relic Carrier is on Settler escort duty.

Turn 5: 894AD
Searching for the Burg Relic.
IBT:
Danish Sword shows up
Kassa (Worker) -> Spear

Turn 6: 897AD
Meet Danes. Only surprise is their treasure of 100gp.
I really have no clue where this darned relic went!
Nice, Buda’s Granary will complete 1 turn before growth even with the auto-picked tiles.

Turn 7: 900AD
Looks like the German Settler/ Relic combo heads for the prime spot at the Danube, will use Andras to dance with them. Pitesti’s borders have expanded, now the Bulgars have Iron.
IBT:
Wines connected...but only to Buda and Miscolc, of course.

Turn 8: 903AD
I give up, I cannot find the Burgundian Relic. I’m tempted to call this a ‘bug’, at least I don’t understand it. Still shadow the German one.
IBT:
Buda (Granary) -> Settler

Turn 9: 906AD
Lux needs to go to 20% for Belgorod. Bulgar Settler combo shows up at the Danube. Horseback Riding is around, but we cannot afford it; even Bulgars have it, only Danes, Rus and Poland are as backwards as we are.

Turn 10: 909AD
Zzzz...

Sorry for 'losing' the Relic, no clue here. And I think this will get tough...our main problem is the lack of Workers, most other Civs start at a road net.

Magyars.jpg

On the dot map: The spot where Andras stands is obvious, but it will require lots of Walzers to grab it; side from the other obvious spots, that other dot is pretty fine - it's on a river, and will consolidate our border.
Anyway, I think we should focus more on Workers, and settle only 2 or 3 more cities, get a sufficient stack of Riders (10 should be enough), and strike - Bulgars first, then Germany. Time is definitely not on our side...

DH, if you can play tonight, I'll take it after you.

Seems the forums went down for awhile there.save

Preturn: I make one more diplo check, don’t see any way to get Horseback Riding right now. There is a Bulgar settler pair approaching Andras’s ‘spot’, hopefully he’s headed elsewhere.

IBT: The German Relicsword settler pair move south.

Turn 1: Andras spots another German Settler pair, escorted by a warrior, moving through the mountains. Even setting both sliders to zero will not give us enough money to buy Horseback Riding; lets hope it gets traded around soon!

Turn 2: Debrecen builds settler, starts spear.

IBT: The Bulgars settle right on top of the wheat next to Andras’s spot. Oh, they will pay for that.

Turn 3: Buda builds settler, starts worker. Szeged builds temple, starts worker. Kassa builds Spear, starts worker. Still can’t get horseback riding.

IBT: The Germans settle Frankfurt on the Adriatic. They get a free spear, and the relic sword turns around.

Turn 4: zzzzz

Turn 5: Buda builds worker, starts settler. Szeged builds worker, starts Granary. Found Pecs in the mountains, on the river. Starts temple. Still can’t get Horseback riding to better than doubtful.

IBT: Franks make some rather aggressive moves. Hmmmm.

Turn 6: Belgorad builds granary, starts settler. Kassa builds worker, starts spear. Belgorad needs a specialist, so I turn science to zero and hire a scientest. EVERYONE has horseback riding, but still won’t trade.

Turn 7: Miskolivic builds temple, starts barracks. Found Mohacs, starts warrior.

Turn 8: zzzzzzzzz

IBT: Many settler pairs wander through our lands. The Celts show up.

Turn 9: Buda builds settler, starts worker. Debrescen builds spear, starts Temple (vetoable). The celts have HB, won’t trade (of course)

IBT: The german relic-sword moves into the fog around Hamburg, were our rider cannot follow without entering German territory.

Turn 10: Not much. Celts have a worker for sale, but we still cannot swing horseback riding. After our workers have finished connecting all our cities in a couple of turns, I think we may have to connect the Iron and prepare for war with swordsmen. Everyone we know has Horseback riding, and no one will trade it, not even for our entire economy. I did not check if we could hire enough tax collectors to afford it, so that may be a faint possibility. Byzantine Ingenuity due in 8, but be sure to restart science or hire another specialist when Belgorad finishes it settler in 2.

Yes, they don't like us...hard to get the ball rolling. Completely agree with a Swordsman war, it should be even worth it spending all our money for upgrades. I'd say go for some Bulgarian cities (especially for the Wool, and that newly founded on the wheat), but don't overextend against them; and slay all Settler combos from far away nations like Castille and Cordova.

Arpad's Return
939
Put scientist at Belgorod back to farming and raise lux and science one notch each.

Shift some other citizens around to raise gpt back towards 4

We are the crossroads of Europe

T1 942
Workers work
Shift horsemen to Buda to prepare for assault on Plovdiv

T2 945
Watch helplessly as all of Europe crosses our land. Warriors against swords, not much joy!

Can't touch HBR for anything less than everything

Ask the Celts to leave the Territory, nicely.

Lux to zero as Belgogrod builds settler and starts warrior

T3 948
Finish some warriors start some more

Western Europe starts HRE

Debrecen riots because garrison was moved to prepare for Bulgar assault, gets a scientist

T4 951
Found Balatonboglar on river east of Belgogrod

T5 954
More warriors

Settler and supporting troops move from Szeged towards plains spot on river between Pitetzi and Plovdiv

T6 957
And more warriors

Iron hooked up in two

Theodora shows up and extorts 32g

Belgorod grows and riots, hire a tax man. Buda's on the verge so raise lux to 10%, put the scientist back in the fields and raise science to 10% (BI due in 1)

T7 960
Finish BI start HBR

T8 963
Warriors finish and iron comes in so get upgraded to swords.

T9 966
Spend rest of Treasury upgrading warriors at Buda and Szeged

T10 969
Start assembling forces for Bulgar war.

Found Jaszbereny in Danube Valley (a dastardly move as it poaches some forests from Bulgars)

Recon Plovdiv with horseman and find spear in garrison.
Remember to move horseman before declaring war.

We have lots of warriors and a couple of swords now but not much cash.

Plovdiv (pop3) should fall to first assault. Pitesti (pop6) is going to be tougher. First horseman victory will trigger GA, right?, so income and production will jump a bunch making support for Bulgar War easier. Sofia in the hills between Debrecen and Belgorod is also a tempting target (pop3) but a little harder to get to. There are a couple of easy Bulgar targets heading towards Belgorod (spear/settler) and we have swords there waiting for them.

The Westerners are still moving through the territory but the flood is abating somewhat.

Belgo and Pecs should hook up to the rest of the realm shortly, so contentment problems will abate.

Ok, got it.

I want to avoid a GA now by all means, the reason for this war is to extort HBR, thenattack one of the trespassers with a Horse and pump out Riders during GA like mad...

The ugly thing is that Plovdiv and eventually Jasberzeny need to be relocated to be of any use...

@bede: Get the 'Not a valid save file' error, any idea what could be wrong? File corruption (it isn't zipped), or patch issues (man, I hate that mess  )?

@DH: Welcome back!

@Vizurok: Glad you like it; you deserve the credits for the 2 renamed cities, I read that in another thread while I designed the modifications.

Doc,

Sorry, this one I don't understand as I uploaded from the machine where I played.

Just tested this .SAV twice and works fine in 1.22.

Apologies again.
