DocT4-How to Rise as a Ruler (RaR Training SG)

Been quite busy at work lately, and I need to go away for business on thursday/friday, and then again monday-wednesday next week.. so unless I can wait untill weekend to play I will need a skip on the first 50 turns or alternatively someone else can take my spot :)

Technically, a skip for the first 50 is not a problem; I don't think we'll have decided which one to continue before next week anyway, so you still have chance.
I'd prefer to have you in the team, since you and cizzlewalk are the only participants I know from other SGs, thus I'm aware of your playing skills

I've started to play my turns and I'd like to confirm one thing. I'm currently at turn 2900BC and I have a possiblity to buy a worker. In some SG rules this is crippling the AI and it is thus not allowed before 1000BC.

Rules:
Usual SG code of conduct.

Please confirm what ruleset you want to use? Can I cripple the AI or not?

Not. ;)
I was just about writing a more elaborate ruleset, since some participants are new to SGs, so 'usual SG rules' is a bit too lazy.
Point is, I consider that rule outdated for c3c unmodded (120gp isn't that easy to come by), but not for RaR: Unless that AI aquired some Slaves, you will buy off its only Worker because of the slower growth. And our neighbors here for sure do not have spare Workers.
Perfectly fine to buy a Worker on the levels with additional starting units, but the rule is:
"It is not allowed to buy the last Worker from an AI Civ before 2000BC"

Since this is the first SG for some players, I need to expand a bit on SG Rules.

Most SGs claim to stick to either the RBCiv or LKendter’s ruleset. In fact, RBCiv is partially outdated, and LKendter has a number of not that commonly accepted houserules. Nevertheless, the spirit behind those rulings is obvious, and applies to this game as well.

Cheats, Exploits:
Outruled (what a surprise..). No reloading to undo actions (but of course, occasional reloading in case of a misclick – the incidentally gifted Tech in the F4 screen is classical – is fine). No blatant exploits like ‘Infinite Wealth’, ‘RoP-Rape’, gpt-purchase of Techs or Resources (for mass upgrades) and declaration to get out of that deal, or false peace treaties.
If you have never heard of those tactics, even better ;)

Also, minor exploits allowed for GotMs are not allowed for SGs: Ship-Chaining (it is allowed to unload in a city, and board a different ship here), ‘Throw-away cities’ (found a city in enemy territory to use the borders to advance your troops, and abandon that city immediately)

A special item is the ‘Seed Corn’ thing: Buying all Workers from an AI Civ very early was way too cheap before c3c; this extremely cripples the AI. Since Workers in c3c are more expensive, that is a lesser problem in the unmodded game, and usually you are allowed to buy all but one Worker from an AI Civ there. However, in RaR the AI will not be able to build Workers early because of the much slower growth, so this rule is still mandatory for this game:
No purchase of the last/ only Worker from any Civ before 2000BC. (Thanks to Tinkez for the reminder, and even more for asking before making the deal  )

A new rule for c3c (and RaR as well) is related to the fact you now can land on enemy zero-defence units (Workers, Settlers, Artillery) with any unit, not only Marines. The AI is not aware of this. While it is allowed to land on AI units, it is outruled to use Worker (or, more commonly, Slave) Walls to block AI landings.

In RaR/DyP, you are also required to respect the rate cap.

Code of Conduct:
Our Reputation is invaluable. Deliberately killing our reputation is about the worst thing you could do to the team. It may be required to do that under rare circumstances, but that must be a team decision. Also, if you’re in doubt an action may hurt our Rep, ALWAYS ask the team before proceeding.
No Automation of units, no Governor-controlled cities except when quelling Resistors, no units on ‘Go to’-orders handed over to the next player.
Please finish your last turn, except for units you mention in your report, and Diplomacy (unless absolutely obvious). But please check Diplo, and report, instruct and advice the next player.
“24/48”- rule (24h for a “Got it”, 48h to finish your turns): I’m not too strict here, especially since we live in several time zones, but try to stick to it. If you need a skip/ swap, or at maximum one more day, post it ASAP; no problem usually.

Note one thing I really hate in SGs (until a relaxed pace is decided on): Posting a “Got it”, announcing you are already playing several times, and 3 days later admitting you couldn’t find the time so far…

I was going to play some more turns on this tonight (20 done already) and noticed rev 1.01 is out. Does is matter if we started this with rev 1.00? Will we be able to use 1.01 with the 1.00 saves? Should I start over on 1.01 (my turn log is such that it would be possible to replay without RNG adjustments)?

I'll check back in an hour or so and see if there's been a reply, else I'll wait until tomorrow to continue.

Denyd: This SG is already RaR1.01 :D
And since the update is only the biq file, it wouldn't change anything anyway. But IIRC America is in the game, so we need to fix the Apache thingie.

Tinkez:
Lucky set of turns!
Misclick on .... diplmacy screen and accidentally give them a tech. Reload.

Btw, with 4 cities you would be the largest Civ.

I have to agree that those turns were very lucky. :crazyeye: It seems that RaR is more generous with leaders. Last game I played I got 3 SGL's and in normal c3c I've got only ONCE a SGL, ever.

Well, I'm sure the RNG will show up again when the first fights start. I've always had terrible luck with the RNG.

I just have to hope such luck continues when I move up in difficulty level to my normal c3c level of emperor / DG. ;)

Oh, by the way:

I've wondered why you can get barracks in every city by building the Sphinx (available at Dynastacism), but normally you need Military training to build barracks. Military training comes available much later in the tech tree. This is a minor thing, but quite strange in my opinion...

(…)

I guess the tech for GpT thing includes making such a deal with a furious AI and make them declare war by sending a retreat request?

@Tinkez...but intended. It makes MIL much more worthwhile, and you can alway build units in the capital and FP cities before (all Palaces give Vet units). And the Sphinx...never seen it built before MilTraining (SGLs, sure...)
@Pfeffersack:
No, if the AI declares, it's fine. I mean, it's their own choice ;).

@ DocTS:
Doc if i have already played half the game with RaR 1.00 basic, is there a chance to
continue playing it with RaR 1.01 or do i have to start over ????

P.S. Also, if You want me to participate in this SG, You'd have to tell me what todo step-by-step

OK, I'll work on it again tonight and should be able to finish by the end of the weekend.

If someone has gotten multiple SGL's (I haven't seen one yet), that might be the game to play.

Doc if i have already played half the game with RaR 1.00 basic
if You want me to participate in this SG,

Ouch. If you have already played half the game, it is impossible for you to join .Or do you mean "half of the first 50 turns"?

To answer your questions one by one:
1) The way Civ3 works, all settings in the biq file are stored in a savegame. This SG start is already RaR1.01, anyway.
You can simply continue playing any RaR game you started; the 1.01 patch is only a new biq file so far (I will include the updated Civilopedia soon). You now start new RaR games by choosing 'RaR1.01basic' instead of 'RaR1.00basic'
2) Unless dbear shows up before Sunday, you could get his spot. In that case, look how Tinkez and Pfeffersack handled it. And, there's a sticky'ed post in this forum how to upload files; for screenshots, by all means download Irfanview (simple + great freeware), hit the 'print' key, paste the screenshot into Irfanview, that's it. Of course, if you're familiar with Correl Photopaint/ Adobe Photoshop, even better.

Here is my first 50 - Probably at the bottom (had a little disease problem in Lhasa) - Also no SGLs and currently 3 techs behind Spain and only 3 cities
