Does 100 hit points mean 10 warriors can no longer defeat a GDR?

So, in conclusion we got rid of the necessity of city-guarding troopes in CiV as cities are able to self-defend - only to need them again because of rebel spam? Hm. I don't know...

Well in Civ terms, the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan were over very quickly, with their main cities captured within a few weeks. As you say, what made those wars drag on for years was the guerrilla warfare, which isn't represented in Civ. (I guess the closest thing in Civ5 is the rebels that appear when unhappiness gets too high.)

It would be an interesting addition if occupied cities would produce rebels ("freedom fighters", maybe), so that you would need to keep a military presence in the city to stop the rebels taking it back. It would probably need per-city happiness to be brought back and/or multiple nationalities in each city a la Civ4.
We used to have a revolution mod for cIV in which u could get rebels in a conquered cities. If they capture ur city, the old civ could revive again or u simply give up the city to the rebels (similar scenario to the Afghan War). I actually suggested the rebel spawning method for captured cities in VEM through events but it was rejected

Anyway I don't really think Firaxis are going to add any complex mechanism, we would have to wait for dll so a modder can add these features in. :)

Only for newly conquered cities while in anarchy, I suppose. It would slow down an easy invasion in another way than just massive unhappiness.

That would work. Rebels will only appear during the anarchy period. They will try to either retake the city or plunder luxuries+strategic resources (which could easily lead to more unhappiness). When retaking it the original civ is revived (or it is given back to them if they're not dead yet).

How about making anarchy last twice as long when your empire is unhappy?

These two combined. An invasion is more than just taking the city and moving on. You'll need to fight off the rebels (should be easy if you didn't lose your entire army) or else they will cause trouble and you might lose the city again.

This allows the attacked civ to regroup and prepare defenses for the next city. Or they can use the situation for an counterattack.

There was a similar concept in Civ 2. Later in the game, when you conquered a city, a certain amount of "guerillas" would immediatly pop up around the city and try to recapture it.

Well, that would work fairly well in V too. Though I'd spread those guerillas out, they just appear randomly during the turns of anarchy. They are guerillas and not a counterattack after all. They will focus on pillaging resources unless they have a chance of retaking the city, then they'll attempt that (shouldn't happen unless you have a minimal millitary there though).

The multiple nationalities on tiles is already done, and I'm currently working on the revolution part, if I can gather enough free time it may even be out before we got the DLL :D
